I didn't think that SCFC had been too busy in the transfer market given the state of the team at the end of last season. It seems that we purchased four, got two on loan and had a free from Norwich. This seems about average for a Championship club but is probably too little for Stoke. Here is a table of the comings and going of every Championship club:
While I was looking for this I came across this table of every Championship club by their wage bill. Interestingly SCFC were 7th in the table with an annual wage bill of over £18 million. Stoke are up there with the big spenders but this is not being reflected on the pitch:
