When SJW arrived I think it was said we had a squad of 29 and that was too big to manage . A more realistic size would be 20 ( plus a few youngsters ) . I make it we have 23 atm . Johannson Bonham Fielding Junior Gooch Gibson Wilmot Rose Stevens Bocat Burger Pearson Laurent Thompson Lawal Baker Manhoef Gallagher Mmaee Vidigal Junho Ennis Johnson . Then youngsters say Lowe Tezgel Sidibe Dixon Andersen Koumas . With incomings say of 3 loans ( saving one for January) and 2 permanent ( say) then that takes us to 28 . So how are we going to achieve this squad reduction or is it wishful thinking ? I could see perhaps Vidigal Mmaee Johnson Baker Ennis leaving on loan or sold . The conclusion I reach is that it’s virtually impossible to get to 20 and that would compromise ourselves in so doing

20 is too small a squad in the Mardarcy modern game.
23 or 24 plus 4 or 5 youngsters is about right.
Offload a couple more and bring in a couple, striker and attacking midfielder (cannon and Cundle).

Most other CH clubs can't afford to finance a squad this large but we seemingly can. With us only having one defeat in 11 games it seems ss has identified our best starting 11 though Some of them players you mention like Vidigal and Baker are well worth keeping. |

Yes I think you should probably have three gk's and a squad of 20 in addition so take the keepers out and we are just about right. If you only have 20 though and five are injured as we currently have is a training session with just 15 viable? |

Generally I'd say you need 2 for each position + a third keeper + a couple of utility players. So 25 seniors
GK - Johansson + Bonham + Fielding
RB - Junior + NEW
LB - Bocat + Stevens
CB - Gibson + Wilmot + Rose + NEW
CDM - Thompson + Pearson
CM - Burger + Lawal
CAM - NEW + Baker/laurent
LW - Bae + Koumas
RW - Manhoef + NEW
ST - NEW + Gallagher + Ennis
Utility - Gooch
Then the youngsters - Sidibe, Tezgel, Dixon, Anderson, Lowe
To sell - Laurent/Baker + Mmaee + Vidigal + Johnson
5 new signings is a big ask and it could be more if we end up losing bae or million

Well after the window we have 33 on the books that have or will (cannon seko) have played first team football this season so far . Of those 4 are not in the building having been loaned out for the season (baker lowe mmaee jojic) . That leaves 29 of which Sidibe Tezgel Dixon Andersen Smith are youngsters . That leaves 24 of which 4 are loanees ( Phillips koumas Moran cannon) . That leaves 20 of which 5 are injured ( Stevens Gallagher Pearson Thompson Rose ) That leaves 15 of which one is Fielding. That leaves 13 . Heck we need a bigger squad  |

You can still view our squads on Stoke official site at www.stokecityfc.com/teamsSeko is 12 and Lawal 18 which I didn't know before. |

So a squad of 22 over-21 players (bizarrely including Mmaee who we must have thought would stay till Vienna had an injury crisis. 14 of them Home Grown - easy enough to get the required 7 in a match day squad. 9 players under 21 although I won't expect to see much of Anderson Smith and Jeffers in the league at least. 6 of them (those mentioned above and Emre, Sol and Jaden) are club-developed presumably, although it's not shown here by the EFL). We have no club-developed older players I think as Tye was the only one left. The rules are that at least one CD player must be in the match day squad or you only get 8 subs. Many thanks Fullermagic. Good to see there is a little space available should we hit a crisis. Just need to make sure any free agent signings are good enough and fit to go, rather than previous wastes. Hopefully we won't need to use them.
