Not sure how Burnley managed to get Laurent done in time to play today but we couldn’t get Seko done in time considering he’s been over here ready to sign for 2 weeks apparently Work permit probably

I suspected that! A gallon isn't the same size either I think. Everything is supposed to be bigger in America, but it surely isn't! No, same length. Just a weak attempt at humour about my tiny Pulis.

It's exciting - in a sense we have three unknowns coming through, with Lawal, Cannon and Seko. Gallagher we know all about, and Koumas/Phillips we've seen enough already to think we have couple of good players (I think Bocat too). But how well these three, especially Lawal and Cannon, impact the team could define our season.
I just can't see how we can keep everyone happy with the numbers once all are fit. Hopefully this guy will get a chance to start v Fleetwood.

Quite excited about this one, a bit of a punt, but looks to have good ability and a deadly free kick👍

All footballers are overpaid in the top two divisions and probably well paid in the lower divisions. A friend of mine played part time for Northwich Victoria and earned more from football than he did his day job. Their needs to be a wage cap akin to Rugby. The game is already out of the reach of the working classes.

www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-tatsuki-seko-andrea-pirlo-9537840Seko has joined Stoke on a three-year deal from Kawasaki Frontale, where his progress over the last couple of seasons has been watched closely by Japanese football reporter Shunsuke Ide. Ide said: "As soon as he joined he quickly became one of the starting eleven and he controlled the game as the central midfielder. "He reminds me of Andrea Pirlo, he controls the ball excellently and brings the ball to the front and he's also an excellent passer who can build up the game from the back. He can be a dangerous player around the final third as he has quite good middle-range shots." Ide told Radio Stoke: "He's only ever played in the J.League but the intensity and physicality is much stronger in English football, plus if he experiences any language barrier it could be a blocker for him to adapt to the team, but who knows he may adapt quickly. He definitely can be a key player for Stoke to get promotion to the Premier League if he can show his excellent abilities of pass, shoot and game control. "The only concern is he may struggle to adapt to the defensive side, like if the team ask him to focus on defence work like a number six. Otherwise he will definitely be one of the most exciting and key players this season."

Very intrigued to see this guy, I think he'll be on the bench for a little while though as he gets used to the country/league.

Thought he wasn’t a regular starter though. He sounds like an 8 though so a good option perhaps.

Thought he wasn’t a regular starter though. He sounds like an 8 though so a good option perhaps. What’s the difference between an 8 and a 10? Genuine question. In the old days 8 was inside right and 10 was inside left. Is it still the case?

Genuine answer……I haven’t got a clue 😩😩😩 If you think that's confusing some people describe a 6 as a defensive midfielder, In my mind that's the number 4 and 6 plays left side of centre back

Yeah 6 should definitely be a number for a centre back.

4 - defensive midfielder holds his position in front of defence, gets a nosebleed beyond the half way line.
6 - base of the midfield, comfortable on the ball, decent passer
8 - lots of energy and creativity, rankling and passing, pot shots from distance
10 - provides link between midfield and attack, defence splitting passing, doesn’t get involved in the dirty stuff
They’re my thoughts anyway. Traditionally of course 5 and 6 are centre backs

Why do folk use numbers that are used in different ways by different teams and countries anyway?
It's just misleading. Why not just describe their positions!!!
These number associations are not universal anyway.
In South America No.5 was always usually a defensive midfielder
We seem to have adopted this from parts of Europe for some reason.
When I think of No.6 I think of Bobby Moore and Alan Bloor, a centre back surely? I know I'm old but there you go!

The article suggests he was a regular starter in Japan but my understanding was that he wasn’t. Nothing to do with how I see him fitting in with us. I’m completely open to see how he performs and hope he’s great.

I like how Lou couldn't be arsed with traditional numbers and made it up as he went along. Number 7? Flying winger? Stanley Matthews? Gives it to a midfield nutcase like Steve Foley, Sean Flynn or Keith Downing. Ball winner at number 6? Best hand it to attacking midfielder and top goalscorer Toddy Orlygsson Deep sitting playmaker wearing number 4? Nope. Ian Cranson at centre half with a bandage on his head. Joe Jordan then took it to the next level and sent John Clark out wearing number 10.

Would we sign a player from afar on a 3 year deal with little intention of him being a regular for us? Just curious is all.

He seems confident regarding his passing range. His personal test will be to see if he can still do it in the championship where the opposition are down your throat almost as soon as you've controlled it. Looking forward to watching this lad and a number of the other new signings.

You don't have any issues with any of the J League exports about pressing and work rate. I think he may turn out to be signing of the season.

I've seen their national team play, and they do work hard. I've never watched a league game from there though so I can't say I know anything about the league other than it doesn't ever get mentioned when people talk about leagues of a good standard. He clearly views it as a challenge and a step up coming here and I'll be right behind him

I love the J League and MLS. A far better watch than the Championship for me
