Would you need to move from Solihull if you are joining Stoke? It would be more convenient to, especially if you had a young family maybe. But it isn't a must do One hour via toll road……..a lot better than it use to be.

Cutthe crap, just admit that you don't know. A game involving the players of teams who aren't likely to make the first team. I go back long enough to remember official reserve team fixtures. I think it was called the Central League. Do we now refer to Academy/Under21 teams as the 'Reserves' or is there something more formal?

Mix of young players and players who won't make the first team. For instance this match was only an hour long. Fulham had known players in their XI who are just going be squad players at best in the prem (harry wilson, Castagna etc) new signing Ryan Sessegnon played to gain fitness. Then Fulhams main team played later that same day. During the season there is certainly no such thing as reserve games anymore. It all comes under the u23/u21 games pretty much

There is no reserve team football hasn't existed for many years Dario Gradi was moaning about the time spent travelling and playing games rather than coaches, the authorities listened and it got binned U21's is a better standard than the old youth team football but nowhere near the standard of actual reserve team football

The Brum fans are right though, aren't they? Because of the ridiculous FFP rules in this division, compared to theirs, they can outbid us quite easily.
On a level playing field they couldn't. It isn't a level playing field though.
Part of me thinks this could be a setup from Stoke - bid for Stansfield, lose out to Brum then take the case to the EFL.

If Stansfield is happy playing in League One? If he was holding out for a Prem move, it's a pretty big drop in standards. There's no saying they'll definitely come back up.

Well I come up from south for matches and go past it on Saturdays. Just googled it too and it was one hour 7 mins. It can be done quicker of course dependent on traffic and timing but an hour I think I’d a fair average?

Great idea sacrifice your season to make a case for changes to take place next season at the earliest. I don’t see any case where Birmingham could easily outbid us on a player we wanted badly.

I live in Solihull borough and have never made it from my house to our ground in under an hour, even with the toll road. It’s likely that he lives in leafy parts to the south east of the town itself so could bypass some of the urban traffic that I have to deal with, but even so an hour would be a very good run.

Because we’re operating under financial restrictions that they aren’t? We’re operating under FFP restrictions that I’m very confident will show that we could easily bid an amount high enough to secure Stansfield over Birmingham. If we choose to spread our budget more widely that is a choice not dictated by FFP. Birmingham will have their own financial restrictions maybe not imposed by the football authorities but just more normal financial restrictions of what their owners are willing to spend. JW said at the forum that we can’t afford to go out and spend £8M on one player but by definition if you go out and spend £8M on 4 players that was obviously untrue. If you think we can’t afford to spend £8M total I think you’ll be in for a pleasant surprise. I mean how far off it are we as we stand anyhow??

I think you’re going a bit 4D chess on it if you’re thinking we’re messing about chasing a player all summer purely to purposefully fail and therefore give ourselves some ammunition for scrapping FFP. The comments from Birmingham fans are talking about themselves as though they’re an irresistible offer from an upwardly mobile, well-run and high-flying club. In reality, they’re a League One side with a manager in his first job, and an ownership group who have a history of making ill-thought out catastrophic managerial appointments, prone to hyperbolic rhetoric with little substance. It’d be a huge gamble with his career and progression to go there, imo. In fact, if they do outbid us he may even think sitting on Fulham’s bench this season would be better for his development than regressing through the leagues.

On the odd occasion I went to Vale Park instead, like quite a few Stokies! Just to gloat obviously!

Because you can only ever work on one transfer at once, or bid for one player at once and not have multiple bids in for players - we should just constantly bid for Stansfield and nobody else, then sit around the campfire after the window has closed wondering why we didn't bid for someone else. I just think it's something a number of clubs should do to make a point about the ridiculous setup. Bid for him (obviously whilst working on other deals for other players). If you get him then great, if not lodge a complaint into the EFL highlighting how and why a League One club can outbid multiple Championship clubs for a PL player because of their ridiculous, self imposed rules.

The sign was for Sutton Coldfield and not Solihull. Oh well that’s definitely doable in under an hour then. If he lives there there’s no point relocating to move to Stoke, especially as he’d probably move to somewhere in Cheshire that’s about the same travel time away anyway.
