why am I daft? Signing him knowing that he’s injured long term? Potential? Why not keep your powder dry until you've seen him play? Or you might end up looking daft.

By all accounts, Lawal will be worth the wait. It must have come as a shock when the stress fracture showed up on the scan; presumably, a quick decision had to be made on whether or not to go through with the purchase. I expect that Walters was key in the decision to go ahead, especially with his sources within the Irish set-up.
Given his age (21), and his potential importance to us in key areas - centre-half or, preferably, defensive midfield - it was deemed a gamble worth taking. Anyone I've asked (I know one or two in the Irish U21 set-up) have, to a man, assured me that Stoke have stolen this kid from Celtic. Have a listen to what Andy Moran has to say about him. He's immensely strong and powerful - he swats people away when he has the ball.
Presumably, his gym work has been intensifying in recent weeks, so when he gets back "on the grass" in mid-October, it shouldn't take long (early November?) before we see him in the squad for matches.
Like everyone else, I've been let down in the past by players who came in with high levels of expectation. There is something about this guy, though.....

Not the first time we’ve done this Players get injured all the time. They've taken medical advice and signed him. It's a calculated risk. He could be great or could be shit. Don't think it's worth getting your knickers in a twist until you've seen him.

Didn’t we sign Rory Delap with a broken leg?
Don’t think that turned out too bad did it?

Didn’t we sign Rory Delap with a broken leg? Don’t think that turned out too bad did it? Sort of. We were already commited to the deal after having him on loan and he broke his leg whilst playing for Stoke so it was a bit different. Tbh I have no issue with this if they think he’s good enough. Can see why people are frustrated because the midfield does look physically weak a bit and if he can plug that then he is a big miss.

The Delap situation was different; it was more to do with honour, and the club's owners are nothing if they are not honourable people. Of course, it's also very possible that TP already had a plan bubbling away for the use of Rory's throw.
I suspect that the club, having carried out its due diligence on the player, knew that they were getting a real bargain and, whilst the injury was a definite hiccup, Lawal would turn out to be a good, long-term investment, both on-the-pitch, and value-wise.

There’s a podcast with Pulis about how Rory’s long throw came about he knew nothing of it until the players were mucking about after training ,think it was Lynsey Parsons who said to Pulis you need to come and see Rory’s throws.

Does this guy actually exist? I've only seen a photo of him in the stands before he signed. Or is he a Terry Henfleet-like tax write off?

If the man himself has said he is back in full training in 2 weeks, I imagine he will be back before January?. To be fair he told my father-in-law in M Club he'd be back training in a couple of weeks and that was more than a couple of weeks ago.....

Hoping he’s one of those with natural athleticism and underlying strength so that when he is given the green light he can get cracking and up to speed asap. I’m sure the fitness team will have been working with him to maintain what they can without impacting on the natural recovery/ rehab of the stress fracture. Can’t wait to see him and hope he’s worth the wait……getting fed up with fannies in midfield getting out muscled and out competed.

Didn’t we sign Rory Delap with a broken leg? Don’t think that turned out too bad did it? No we had him on loan with an agreement to sign he broke his leg playing for us well into his recovery we forfilled our promise something Rory always appreciated This was also respected by other players signing for the club

You do realise an Irish couple of weeks can be anything from 2 to 51 weeks…🤣

why am I daft? Signing him knowing that he’s injured long term? You don’t mention the injury per se, but you do point the finger at Walters and your conspiracy theory relating to the fact that he’s Irish and came from a team managed by a mate of Walters. As for the injury I assume the club think he’s worth the wait.

For some reason I've got it in my mind he's going to be a Yaya Toure type for us
Never seen him play, no idea what his strengths and weaknesses are, could be absolutely wank for all I know
But whenever he makes his debut, if he doesn't play like Yaya / or even Imbula did for us vs Bournemouth, Chelsea, Watford, I'm going to be disappointed 😆
