Armstrong (if you are signing him) came on against us earlier in the season and looked a right handful. Constantly running and pressuring our defence. He was absolutely shit in front of goal mind, but he’s young enough to improve. Might be worth a gamble. "Absolutely shit in front of goal" Jesus Christ. This is worrying. Our ambition should be top 6. We need a striker that fits the bill accordingly, not somebody chasing a balloon around for 90 minutes, that might be "a handful for defenders" in the process. He did way more than chase a balloon around against us - best performance in the lone striker role I saw last year at Stoke by a long way. The real question for me is how he would fit into a front 3 and in particular what is link up play is like - I can't see us setting up very often with a lone striker. Used properly his pace and strength could be a real asset for those playing off him - a Heskey type of forward, a player's player rather than a fan's player.

I think he's exactly what we've been missing for years. Sometimes the job just requires a hammer.

I thought Armstrong was a real handful at the Brit last season and they looked a much worse team when he was subbed. He bullied McNally (not difficult, admittedly) and created lots of space for others to work in. I don’t really subscribe to the idea that we must get a 20 goal a season striker - it’d be preferable but they’re very few and far between. If you can get a centre-forward to get a steady number (double figures essentially) but also facilitate others chipping in then I think that’s an equally viable option. Manhoef has shown a sizeable uptick in goals after some early profligacy, hopefully Bae will do likewise. Schuey seems to expect goals from centre-midfielders too - Cundle chipped in with a couple and he was encouraging more runners from midfield. I suspect we’re hoping to balance the goalscoring load around, so that we’re not reliant on one person entirely. he bullied MacNally...for 20 minutes or so than MacNally dealt with him really well, ended up being one of his best games None the less it was an eye catching 20 minutes, pace, power, very dangerous will need good coaching & hard work at the low fee of £2.5m can see why we are interested, potential is there we aint got the money for the perfect striker so have to take a gamble Yeah, that’s probably a fair challenge re: McNally! There’s definitely a player in there, imo. His goals record for the Irish youth setup is pretty respectable.

Wasn’t that arsed on this one, but interesting he’s chosen them over us.

Would be worth a gamble as a squad option but would have been concerned if he was our main striker signing! So not too bothered about missing out on this one at all.
We don’t know why he’s chosen Bristol but it’s possible that they have said he’s going to be their main man and we might have seen him as a squad option. Who knows.

Slightly concerning if we've lost out to Bristol City, especially with the Walters link

Slightly concerning if we've lost out to Bristol City, especially with the Walters link Depends what they offered. And if they have had a longish interest then that always appeals to a player Could be a simple case of they could offer her more guaranteed starts than we could. Who knows

Slightly concerning if we've lost out to Bristol City, especially with the Walters link I think it may be a blessing mate, I can't find a solitary voice who's thinking we've missed out.

It does sound like they'd been pursuing him for a long time and he'd basically made the decision to go there before, for some reason, we jumped in only at the 11th hour.
And the more I read, I did find my enthusiasm for the deal ebbing a bit!

We’ve definitely missed out in my opinion because for me the lad although very raw at times will become a top striker who’s power and pace will frighten Championship defenders to death. His old QPR teammate Rob Dickie is at Bristol City along with his Irish mate Jason Knight

An early defeat for the new crack transfer team. Disappointed. Well let’s be honest. You’re delighted. You’ve been praying they fail since they were appointed and it’s clear in every single post you make about them and transfers.

An early defeat for the new crack transfer team. Disappointed. Johansson, Gibson and Bocat will all have had suitors and we managed to get those?

Interesting. Wasn’t that arsed on this one, but interesting he’s chosen them over us. surely they can’t beat us on wages 🤷♂️ Depends on what wages and length of contract we thought he was worth. I'm sure if we wanted to we could pay more but as he's not the finished article which I imagine we are looking for the perhaps Bristol's deal was better. I don't really want us to sign a player we are not sure will be good enough just to prove we can pay more than other clubs.

Not bothered about missing out on this player.
Bothered about being a less appealing option though. But then we have been wank for 6 years, so what can I expect.
