It's a thread just laying into the kid about everything ranging from his first touch to the fact he didn't smile on a team go karting event. Standard I like the mention of 250k though. Judging by their local press, it seems that Ugbo is very keen to go back to Wednesday and personal terms aren’t likely to be a problem, just agreeing a fee with Troyes. So sounds like this one is a bit of a long shot, especially if it’s going to take approximately 3 million to sign him. Its a shame as he looks like he would be a brilliant signing.
As a side note, Wednesday have a centre half (Dishon Bernard) out of contract who they seem to rate very highly. Only 23 and previously at Man Utd. He sounds like he would be a very good addition on a free to go in alongside Gibson! We probably need to prioritise our money elsewhere though.

But suspect we will get Armstrong as it looks the easier deal to complete and obviously already has the Walters link who will know about his DNA e.t.c Armstrong probably has the higher potential to turn a tidy profit if he can start scoring. Strikers with his physical attributes who score goals go for big money. It’s a big if of course but probably worth a gamble for a couple of million quid. |

No use having pace if he does nothing with it. His goal and assist ratio isn’t good enough to spend money on. Yes he is young but we need a goal scorer and he isn’t that. As many are saying maybe we can have both. If it comes down to a choice between one or the other it’s no contest really. We need goals yesterday not maybe at some unknown point in the future. Armstrong would just be a continuation of signing some very exciting high potential young players. Fans should be excited not critical of these signings whilst hoping we get a few for the here and now ASAP. It’s not nor should it be one or the other. The only qualification there is I’d hope we’re not spending a big proportion of our overall budget on Armstrong a couple of mill would be fine we should have significantly more available. |

We can spend £4m on the likes of Burger and Manhoef but having to resorts to punts on youth for strikers because the kind of striker we actually need we’d be looking at £10m minimum and they’re hard to find. |

Just having a good look at Armstrong. Hes only just turned 21 in June so all of his football has been played at 19/20 so far. So definitely a lot of scope for him to improve.
He’s pretty much the same age as Delap who has just gone for 20m. Obviously Delap looks the more rounded player at the moment but not a vast difference in their careers so far. 100% if Armstrong can add a few more goals to his game you’ve got a serious asset on your hands.

It’s not possible it’s certain. John Coates would have to have had a shift from his stated policy of wanting to spend as much as we’re allowed to for us to not have considerably more than £5M available without troubling FFP. Trust me I haven’t got any inside information but I’ve been studying the figures for years. |

Gayle and Wes leaving didn’t really do much to the profit and sustainability, they were just salaries with not investment or loss over the 3 year period. What it looks like we are doing is bringing in potential, at low outlay, and potential high return. If you get a 3 year period where 3-5 players come and go at a profit, say between 5-10 million each, that would enable the owners to potentially invest higher amounts than what we are seeing. The hope for us fans is we can do that and still try and make the play offs. The reality of pissing away the money from relegation |

It wasn’t the initial fees that put us in the terrible FFP position we were in a year or two ago it was the wages. The losses made the fees look like small change. |

Few clubs have owners committed to injecting the maximum £13m a season plus a very generous Bet365 sponsorship. We stabilised our finances and have sold well in the last season or so. I'd imagine the Armstrong/SJW following each other on Insta relates to them already knowing each other from when Walters coached him in the ROI youth teams. Unless they've only just started following each other of course. |

I'm actually quite excited by this transfer, if we sign him.
He's got everything we've wanted in a striker for so long, except the goals but he's 20. Not like we're signing someone whose got a long history of not scoring.
I keep banging the drum too but look at Morris and Adebayo's records before Luton & mostly a lower level too.
If we can get him in the building, develop him and get him scoring regularly, as has been mentioned already strikers with his attributes go for very big money.
Even if he doesn't score regularly, you only have to look at Keinan Davis and the kind of fee's Villa were demanding for him, he rarely scores but still went for £15m or so.
