Says he's better suited to a 3/5 looks to have good feet and pretty quick. If we are going WBs we definitely need another decent CB 2 if we’re going 3 x CBs I think we will mix it up between a 4 and a 3 so we might get away with it if we sign another younger first choice to go with Gibson.

Sounds more like a midfielder than a defender. Maybe LWB? Certainly not a specialist left back? Sounds like a Hoever replacement but for the opposite side to me.

His strengths would suggest he’ll be comfortable playing as an inverted full back, a position we know the manger likes.
I don’t think we’ll be seeing a back three very often next season.

I'm not on X, what's the gist? Left sided Hoever so he can’t defend ?

If we don't, it will be a crime against chants Bobcat the indisputable leader of the gang he’s the top he’s in the championship he’s the most tip top…bobcat! Lol 😂 Think you're missing one line: Bocat, the indisputable leader of the gang. Plays for stoke, at the top, of the championship, he's the most tip-top...bocat!

Not sure this signing means we will play 343. More it just shows how we want to have more pace and adventure in the full back positions.

If we don't, it will be a crime against chants Our boneheaded pub-dust imbibers struggle with chants with more than four words at the best of times. Expecting them to sing a Stoke-ified version of this Hanna Barbera ditty would be like asking a dog to do a Rubik's cube 😅 The "boneheaded pub-dust imbibers" sound familiar... Didn't they support world of twist?

What’s his main position then? Reverse cowgirl I dunno, bo(w)cat has a very specific meaning in some parts of the world...

I think we will mix it up between a 4 and a 3 so we might get away with it if we sign another younger first choice to go with Gibson. We played a back four the majority of last season, but Hoever was still given licence to get forward a lot. Unless Schuey wants to return to his Plymouth tactics, I can still see us with a back four but with Junior and Bocat as our marauding full backs. The only thing missing from Bocat's locker is a lack of mobile passing to keep momentum on the press, but I think this is because he has the confidence to take the ball forward himself rather than passing to a teammate. No doubt about it, he's the LB/LWB we're crying out for. Get him in quick!

If we never play a back three/five again I’d die a happy man. It’s been absolutely dire for every manager that’s tried it recently.
Hopefully those saying this signing means we’re going in that direction again are reading too much into it.

Hopefully those saying this signing means we’re going in that direction again are reading too much into it. The reason it hasn't worked for us previously is down to the managers, not the formation. When used correctly a 3 at the back is one of the most attacking and fluid formations you can get. The problem was O'Neil and Neil (especially Neil) used it in a defensive way..which is never going to work. Schumacher used it sometimes at Plymouth and used it in an attacking sense, as it should be.

I’m way too scarred by the home maulings against Norwich and Leicester and the awful first half performance at Wednesday to be prepared to think “Oh this time round it will surely be different”. I’m aware that it can work very well in some circumstances for the right squad of players but the fact that our last three managers have all tried to use it with a variety of personnel and had it go badly doesn’t fill me with any confidence that the next time round will be any different. I genuinely think that if we start playing it regularly next season Schumacher will be out of a job by Christmas, which would be a big shame as we were building something that looked really promising playing 4-3-3 towards the end of last season.

He won't use it regularly. He has shown that. With the right players he knows how to use it right as be showed at plymouth. It's a formation that will suit some games more than others. He's already shown 433 is his go to and prefered tactic. But it's nice to know a manager has a plan B or even C...which was one of Alex Neils downfalls, he had no plan b

ahh yes i'd hate it if we turn into prime guardiola man city and start playing with 3 at the back. People get too emotional about formations, let Schuey cook, if it ends up being a system that has 3/5 at the back and it works, I don't care about the history.

People are posting as if he’s already a Stoke player and yet there’s nowt on the official site. I can only find speculation on line nothing concrete. Is this going to be another "Josh Tymon to sign tomorrow" thread that adorns the mb for weeks every window?

We're still signing Zigic don't ya know!!! 😏 . . . . . and I have it on good authority that Lee Trundle has been trudging through the housing market in Trentham. A bit of additional information, Terry Henfleet has asked for a move from Sheffield Wednesday and Mrs Henfleet likes the look of a little 2 up 2 down in Normacot.
