Yep, that's where he is then, the mountain and not the sea. I guess his best/only hope is that he fell and broke a leg or something like that, but its 2.5 days on, how long can you live without water? It depends on your physical status, age etc. 5 days. We used to say 2-3 days before. What if he just wants to be alone for a few days? mmm...2 to 3 days might be maximum if the temperature is 40C and he is 67 years old. If he just wants to be alone let's hope he took plenty of food and water!

Maybe he's doing a John Stonehouse ? Joking apart, you know how he does these TV programs where he lives off hamburgers for 3 weeks I did wonder if this was going to turn in to a TV program about crash dieting or something. But I fear not. I suspect this is tragedy rather than farce.

Truth really is sometimes stranger than fiction, and a massive search in a small area hasn't revealed a body as yet...

BBC saying found in a cave on that rugged hillside above the town, police say he had been dead for a number of days.
RIP genial man who brought medical science as it relates to health to the masses.

Really sad. Assuming it was natural causes, it absolutely highlights that exposure is such a killer. If someone wants to go on a long walk, they should map it out and TELL SOMEONE WHERE THEY WILL BE. Too many people die this way, it’s tragic.

I wrote cave first too, but altered my post when they said it was incorrect. He was found next to the beach. Dried out and had not drunk enough water. Could have been a heart attack or something too. Time will tell.

I can’t say I’ve ever heard of him. Sad news though. Did a lot of research into reversing type 2 diabetes or pre diabetes with restrictive 600/700 calorie diets and a combination of carbohydrate restriction (keto). Nice fella and a huge loss to front line, understandable science. RIP.

I guess an inquest will deliver more conclusive findings, but for a Dr in his specialist background to be unaware of potential dehydration and to leave a mobile phone behind ,would be unusual. RIP and thoughts with his family.

Having watched his shows he’s probably the type of bloke who sees a mountain/hill and spontaneously thinks “I’ll have a wonder up that” given he was very health conscious he probably thought that a bit of uphill rambling would do him good, he likely fell or just passed out from the heat 🫤
I don’t think a man about to commit suicide would bother taking an umbrella to shade himself from the sun! But 🤷♂️

When you really think about it was it absolutely crackers what the good doctor attempted?
So he is feeling poorly on the beach and decides to go home. But rather than just go home he, an intelligent man in his late 60's, decides to scramble up a sun baked rocky hillside on his own in the suffocating heat without his phone, without water and without much idea of the route!
I just have to pinch myself.

You’d have to establish whether or not this was out of character, he might have left it behind on purpose to get away from work related messages/ calls etc … it’s such a small place the likely hood of anything bad happening probably never crossed his mind!

Dead at 4pm, 2.5 hours after he left the beach.
Before he was even reported missing.
That's some stunt.
RIP Doctor :-(

Seems more common than you might think:
This was the latest in a string of recent cases in which tourists on the Greek islands have died or gone missing. Some, if not all, had set out on hikes in very hot temperatures.
The body of a 74-year-old Dutch tourist was found by a fire department drone on Saturday lying face down in a ravine about 300 meters (330 yards) from the spot where he was last observed last Sunday, walking with some difficulty in the blistering heat.
Dr Michael Mosley, a noted British television presenter and author, was found dead last Sunday on the island of Symi. A coroner concluded that he had died the previous Wednesday, shortly after going for a hike over difficult, rocky terrain.
On Friday, two French tourists were reported missing on Sikinos, a relatively secluded Cyclades island in the Aegean Sea, with fewer than than 400 permanent residents.
The two women, ages 64 and 73, had left their respective hotels to meet.
On the island of Amorgos, also in the Cyclades, authorities are still searching for a 59-year-old tourist reported missing since Tuesday, when he had gone on a solo hike in very hot conditions. US media identified that missing tourist as retired Los Angeles county deputy sheriff Albert Calibet of Hermosa Beach, California.
