It's a fantastic distance I did the Manchester Mile at Sport City in Manchester about 5 or 6 years back just to remember what it was like to properly race on a track. Starting gun, tape finish, proper timing system. I was in the second fastest heat of seven but my fellow runners had all lied about their ability..... they were far faster than they'd put down on the application form so I trailed in last, off the pace by about 10 metres from second last. I did 5:43 which was reasonable considering

Heard a fact this morning that I didn't know.
When the four min mile was broken the record only stood for six weeks before somebody bettered it!!
