I’m sure this has been covered but just saw some footage of the final whistle at Portman Road today, bloody hell it made me quite emotional. 🥲
The parallels with our promotion in 2008 are really striking - a solid medium-big club with a good history, unexpectedly promoted back to the top flight after 22 years away and recently languishing in the 3rd division. The unbridled joy in that pitch invasion, the players hoisted on shoulders, the beaming owners in the stands. There will be a whole generation of fans there in their 20s and 30s that were probably resigned to never seeing their team in the top flight again. Just like we were. I honestly felt so happy for them.
Brought it all flooding back I tell ya! We will rise again Stokies…

They look in much better nick than Sheffield United did 12 months ago
They will need key signings to come off

They always had a chance of promotion especially with the number of goals they were scoring in league one. Teams that score goals always have a chance, it was never just one or two players they had many players chipping in.

They now face the same problem that all promoted teams face. Spend Big, or hope that a couple of shrewd buys and a lot of organisation and spirit can keep them in the division. I only wish it was our problem. If they do prosper in the Premier League, then they had better start the search for their next manager, as their present one will be lured away. They certainly play modern football but whether they will be able to do so successfully against higher standard players will be interesting to see. Burnley strolled our league last year but struggled in the Prem and are rejoining us having had a terrible season with just 5 wins. Will Kompany stay and will he be able to repeat the promotion trick next season,or will Burnley implode financially.

I'm more than surprised to see Kompany touted for the Brighton job he should stay at Burnley

Hope that they stay there. It’s a good club that has benefitted from clever investment, yet haven’t exactly bought their way out of the league.

Well done to them.
Just shows score goals and it's easy! They conceded 3 less than us but scored over 40 more! 😁

Only lost 10 games in the last 2 seasons.
Fair play to them

They are the best possible demonstration of the importance of playing with a set style and identity. Man for man their squad is not as good as Leeds’s or Southampton’s but they approach every game in the same way regardless of the opposition and because of that their players are incredibly well drilled in their individual roles while also being able to build strong partnerships with teammates.
We haven’t really had an identity since we got relegated. All of our managers have chopped and changed tactics and team selection. Establishing one has to be a priority for next season. It’s no coincidence that our three straight wins at the end of the season came with a settled side.

My wife is always questioning my support for Stoke, saying I don't know why you bother to support them.
But it is achievements like Ipswich, Luton, and Sheffield United rising through the league that always gives hope that one day we can follow suit again.
Good luck to them.
At least 1 , usually 2, and sometimes all 3 of the promoted teams drop back down. Hope they manage to stay up. It's rare to all 3 promoted sides to stay up, but of course it had to happen the year we were relegated.

It really does just go to show what can be done with players that are no better than anyone else’s in this league. All about a positive mindset and upward trajectory- although McKenna deserves all the credit. He really has had the perfect mix of youth/ experience too.
Hadn’t realised our former loaner Harry Clarke was a massive Ipswich fan as a boy- seeing him emotional like that reminded me of the emotion of our local lads when we went up.
Wonderful scenes and a genuinely decent club with superb loyal fanbase. Congrats to them.

Ipswich were hammering team after team at the end of the season and were absolutely flying with goals coming from everywhere. They always felt to be the best of the promoted teams to me

Ain't nothing wrong with the Swich, hope they stay up just because they stuck to their guns all year, worked hard and didn't play "scared" against anyone.
