I found him to be incredibly likeable. I met him several times a various trade shows in the West Mids and found him most engaging, passionate about manufacturing, esp engineering and a great champion for West Midlands businesses in general. Spearheaded numerous initiatives for training and investment and was 100% committed to championing the wider West Midlands as a whole.

I head the new mayor’s victory speech and Street’s departing speech. I felt that almost every single politician could learn a thing or two about the two candidates in the way they respected each other yet disagreed. None of the bitterness of Susan Hall in London, instead it genuinely came across that they both support one another in getting the best for their region. They seemed genuinely to prioritise their electorate over party politics.

I must admit I always found him to be a smug bugger! Couldn't be further from the truth. Met him a couple of times and he's a lovely bloke. Isn't big on party politics and genuinely cares about doing good for the people of the West Midlands. Amazed if this result doesn't trigger a vote of no confidence in Sunak.

I think the Tory MPs have leader change fatigue Even Braverman has been talking it down

What a refreshing interview this is. I'd absolutely love to see him lead the Conservative party after Sunak's inevitable resignation. These are exactly the type of individuals that we need running parties and leading the nation. I'd say the same of Andy Burnham on the other side of the fence. Most ordinary Brits want to see honest politicians who actually give a fuck about their people and British prosperity.
Given the demographic of Birmingham, he's achieved an astounding amount over these past few years.
Very sad that Birmingham loses him but if the Tories have any sense (very questionable) they will be all over him as a potential party leader.
Look at the state of Sadiq Khan in comparison to Street and Burnham. He's a disgrace to the nation.

Rates of crime in the West Midlands compare very badly with London. More stabbings, gun crime and anti social behaviour in the West Midlands than London, all on a per capita basis. Air pollution is massively down in London because of Khan. Free school meals for primary school kids. TFL prices frozen for 5 years. Khan’s achievements have been recognised at the ballot box. Street’s haven’t.

Street’s haven’t. Oh come off it Oggy. Khan hasn't won due to popularity, he's won because the London demographic (almost an entirely Labour city now) isn't going to vote for a personality like Susan Hall. The Tories got it all wrong with their selection as they did previously. Not helped by the state of the party. Also that's a side point. My point around Khan was the way he conducts himself compared to respectful politicians like Street and Burnham and indeed, the chap who just won the West Midlands. Khan spends most of his time harping on about his opposition being a "white supremacist", talking about how evil Trump is and how his opposition is "dangerous". The idea of Susan Hall being dangerous is pathetic. Useless, maybe but "dangerous"? 😂 This is coming from the same guy who does his own fireworks show and claims they were "the best in the world". An absolute muppet. All you've done re Khan's "achievements" is just reel off the list from his own website.

Its a minority position and likely to be unsuccessful not matter the "Demographic" Baroness Warsi - who served as Tory chair between 2010 and 2012 - said on X/Twitter: “Why is it that with every London Mayoral election we manage to find a candidate worse than the last and manage to sink that little bit more into gutter politics.
“Look @andy4wm [Tory West Midlands mayor Andy Street] and learn @conservatives - how inclusive and decent politics can be done. Be more #Street and less #Susan.”The two previous Mayoral Elections Khan won were against Shaun Bailey and Zac Goldsmith so 3 very different "Demographics" Trump is dangerous, he and his Proud Boys tried to organise an Insurrection, have you not heard about it? As for the irrelevance of the Fireworks display, it's an Annual Event as is the critism from certain sections of the media. Its quite amusing that the most prominent critics are Arch Brexiteers who bemoan that people don't "Believe" enough in Global Britain and if they did things would be so much better. Pathetic.

Are you able to educate me then on why Susan Hall is a "dangerous white supremacist"? Very intrigued as I must have missed something but if I've missed it then happy to concede on that. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume your reference to Bailey appealing to a different demographic was lazy and nothing more than that. Bailey is black, that doesn't automatically mean he's going to wipe out the Sadiq Khan vote. Bailey was a terrible candidate. Painfully weak, pretty Conservative in his views and was never going to dislodge a vicious opponent like Khan. Your post completely moves away from the original point. Whether Trump is a proud boy lover or not, has absolutely shit all to do with Khan running for London mayor and should be nowhere near his campaign. Andy Burnham or the new West Midlands mayor didn't feel the need to talk about Trump did they? Rather they focused on the people they are meant to be representing. It feels a tad hypocritical that you are the first to call the likes of Trump a nasty narcissist, yet the minute a politician from your side of the debate demonstrates the most obvious narcissistic tendencies, you just completely dismiss it as brexiteers making stuff up 😂 What about the many remainers who also think Khan is a useless, arrogant narcissist?

I didn't say Susan Hall was dangerous, I said she was a White Supremacist, I should have added an Islamaphobe. If in doubt Google is your friend, it won't take long, nor did it take Baroness Warsi Baron Bailey of Paddington and Baron Goldsmith of Richmond are Establishment figures, I'm surprised you would have doubts Trumps 2015 campaign pledge to ban Muslims to the US was criticised by Khan since then as you well know they have traded insults backwards and forwards including Trump challenging Khan to an IQ Contest. Personally I think it I'll serves both. You introduced the idea that neither Susan Hall nor Trump were dangerous, on the former I agree on the latter i disagree which is why I mentioned his association with the Proud Boys and Insurrection. Your obsession with Trump overwhelms that you would even introduce him on this thread. The point I made which you are trying to deflect is that Khan in his position of London Mayor is "bigging up London" and the main detractors for doing so are certain MSM and prominent Brexiteers who also complain that one of the reasons Brexit isn't a roaring success is that people do not believe fervently enough in "Global Britain". I could name Khan’s cheif "Fireworks" detractors but I'm sure you know who they are and in any case it's a simple exercise to find out. It's called hypocrisy.

An absolute muppet. All you've done re Khan's "achievements" is just reel off the list from his own website. His achievements are his achievements. I benefit from them as I live in London. He has done good things and that’s why his vote share rose despite the change to FPTP which was a cynical attempt to split the non-Tory vote. Politicians like Hall and Trump are dangerous. They thrive on division in society and actively create it. Khan is right about both in my opinion (and in the opinion of the majority in London). The world would be better without politicians who stoke up hatred. You just have something against Khan. You brought him up for no reason. I have defended him. He has done wonders for the Jewish and Muslim communities in London for example, despite potential for bias. Sadly events in Israel/Gaza have obviously made those worse again. Street and the winner conducted themselves admirably as I have said in my post near the top of the thread. Khan was critical of Hall because she was awful in the campaign and fairly obviously hated Khan due to his religious beliefs and the colour of his skin. He is hardly going to be full of praise for her at the end.
