I still dream about Oulare’s arse 🥴 We’ve got a Banks statue, a Matthews statue, the Ritchie bust, it’s about time we had a model of Oulare’s arse displayed outside the main entrance.

My mum letting me have the day off school and taking me on the coach that day will forever be the thing I'm most grateful to her for.
It's mad to think that a game of that magnitude we only took 500 but it really was not a nice place to go back then.

The pure magic of O’Connors first going through Kavs legs - lovely stuff.

Still the best game I've been too in my 40 years watching Stoke, I can still hear the half enders bouncing against the corrugated iron roof after the game and it transports me back. I had absolutely no doubt after that victory we were getting promoted, the final was a procession.......

Jimmy's goal was Nige's finest hour. The emotion and disbelief in his voice. For Oulare's arser mumbling Mick started, well, mumbling.

I still smile when I recall the announcer telling their supporters that when they celebrate, to keep off the grass.

They were that convinced of winning, they paraded their Welsh finest around the ground before the match, as well. I think even Neill Kinnock was there.

A marvellous watch. Wonder where James O'Connor is now? Whether he ever comes back to the club, like some others do.

A marvellous watch. Wonder where James O'Connor is now? Whether he ever comes back to the club, like some others do. Was coming to post exactly the same thing. I don't recall him being a guest at any games or on co-comms on RS or anything. He went to Burnley and never returned, as far as I know? He's a cult hero purely for that game.

I watched with a few thousand in the ground on a big screen - quite a few had left before Jimmy scored
Got a random bear hug from a young lady next to me as it went fairly mental, the winner, and the stress of it after (didnt they miss a sitter in normal time? Thorney? somehow bounced into Cutlers arms?)
Some names here - and a certain Mike Dean as ref
Cardiff: Alexander, Weston, Young, Prior, Croft, Boland, Kavanagh, Bonner (Maxwell 112), Fortune-West, Earnshaw (Campbell 88), Thorne (Bowen 105). Subs Not Used: Bywater, Collins.
Stoke: Cutler, Thomas, Handyside, Shtaniuk, Clarke, Gudjonsson, O'Connor, Dinning (Vandeurzen 104), Gunnlaugsson (Cooke 88), Iwelumo (Oulare 71), Burton. Subs Not Used: Viander, Brightwell.
Att: 19,367.
Referee: M Dean (The Wirral).

I listened to it online via dial up and punched a hole in the partition wall when we scored.

What a wonderful career he's made for himself. It doesn't look like we'll be seeing him in Ricardo's, any time soon then.

Thorne missed a decent chance in normal time, it looked like his header was going to drop then Cutler just fell onto the ball at the last second. Fortune-West missed an absolute sitter pretty much straight from kick-off after our second goal.

I’ve never met a more pessimistic fan than myself, but even I was completely relaxed at the Millenium. Watched the Cardiff away game at the Brit and it was brilliant. I was at high school age, and remember asking the man next to me how long is left (as the big screen didn’t have the time on) over and over and over and him rubbing my head at full time after we’d all gone a bit mental. What an evening.

without these great memories again 22 years on Thanks for posting that. It's right up there as one of the most unforgettable experiences watching Stoke. A few days before I had been at the annual PFA Awards dinner, where I met Clive Clark. He had been fed up that Gudjon made him wait until the end of the season for an op on his knee. I remember asking him who was the PFA rep at Stoke. "Neil Cutler" was the answer. What's he like as a PFA rep I asked. Quick as a flash came the reply - "same as he is as a 'keeper. When you need him sometimes he's there, sometimes he isn't" As CC went down the left on that attack with minutes to go, I remember bellowing "go on Clarky, one final run on that gammy knee" which he did of course, put a good cross in, and it's put back in to J O'C and the rest is history. When the winner went in, I don't think there's ever been a 'mental' like it !

Still, we got the last laugh, what a night in South Wales!

We have had some real good loan players who made a big impact at the club .
I'm thinking Crossley ,Hendrie, Taggart, Diao...but Deon Burton doesn't get mentioned much but without that late goal to make it 1 - 2 in the home leg ,plus his goal in the final ,who knows what path the club would have taken if we had failed to go up that season ? It would have been 3 failed play off attempts on the bounce.
