Attended my first London marathon yesterday (Spectator wise) and what a wonderful experience it really was, all this doom and gloom about London being this, that and the other but nothing of concern anywhere.
Whilst we made our way around certain points cheering on the participants I caught site of the elite runners and the elite of the elite (lead group) if that makes sense and Christ almighty these runners are machines, half way through the course and they’re going full pelt, it’s like sprinting to us, amazing site.
What really made me laugh is my wife commenting that the chap standing next to us knew loads of the runners as he was shouting “C’mon Pete, C’mon Japan” for example, didn’t tell her until this morning that he was shouting their vest details out, oh well she learnt something new I suppose

London’s a big place and without doubt the marathons route is a superb one which encapsulates the nicest parts so it’s a safe event.
I went to the Landmark half marathon a couple of weeks ago and that too was excellent and I’ve signed up to run next years.
If you class London as the City, Blackheath and Greenwich it is indeed a beautiful place.

I class all of those as London, as I do Rotherhite, Deptford and Bermondsey and other places the marathon goes through/past.........

I’d pay good money to watch a 100m sprint through Barking

I was there on Sunday near the finishing area. Good weather and the rest of the city was fairly quiet. Had a nice walk around Mayfair and Belgravia as well.

Two coffees in a pub in Mayfair cost us £9 on Saturday, it took ages to arrive, was lukewarm and in small chipped cups when it did and what there was of the coffee was nowhere near as good as Gregg's or Weatherspoons coffee, glad my lad paid 😂

Love the nice fancy pants stuff, there’s not much better. The outskirts are hell holes in my limited 25 years plus experience of staying in those areas.

Is Portsmouth near Croydon? Thought you were well travelled? I am, it was a rhetorical question obviously. I must have misunderstood your post. Apologies
