Personally I'm not really bothered about the England team and even less so with the current dullard as manager, I'd choose Stoke every day of every week over England. Give me the choice of Stoke winning anything- league cup FA cup, play-offs, promotion or England winning the Euros or World cup and I would take Stoke every time. So I find it hard not agreeing with Carragher. Doesn't say I agree with everything he says or that I like or care about him or his views. Gouranga.  |

It seems the the topic has changed from his England comments to spitting. I do not think anyone will defend his spitting incident but for me, his comments about England are bang on.
Last day of the season Stoke have a penalty to stay in the league in 90+5 mins VS England have a penalty in sudden death to win the euros .... Stoke every single time without a doubt for me.
I'd rather Stoke win the autoglass again than England win the world cup (not that I fancy relegation)

If you asked me in a parallel universe if I'd be more gutted missing a peno in a Champions League semi final for Stoke or World Cup semi-final for Scotland then it's Scotland all day!
You can play in the Champions League every year of your career if you're good enough/ that way wired whereas you could be the best player in the world and never play in a world cup.

Did just want to say.
I posted this because i was so, I’m not really sure how to describe it, somewhere between outraged and disgusted at the time.
Having read some of the views on here I find my attitude softening and, by reason of well placed arguments here, actually seeing their point as equally, if not more, than my original position.
I did just want to add.
I did hear it live, also went back to try to fact check myself.
Points have been made above about tone/comedic content/nuance etc.
In my personal view it was delivered with nothing more than scouse c*ntery as its effect.
Lets hope he’s not involved in any international games in the near future eh?

Never got this partisan approach to Club v Country? They are not rivals and never will be, you can happily support both, neither has to be diluted for the other? The hypothetical question of Stoke or England (or other) preferred champions is literally stupid tbh. I'd love Stoke to win every trophy going and the same goes for England - I don't have to choose.
As for Carragher and England, everyone knows he's sour as fuck about it all cos basically he rarely got picked - who cares what he thinks? Most players see representing your country as the pinnacle of their career, and rightly so.
