Every club do it no matter what. No point being arsed about it or lambasting others who might stay back and applaud. Depending on next week's performance I'll probably stay too. They deserve some recognition for the last two months or so. They really don’t. There’s absolutely nothing to be thankful for and they all should be fucking ashamed really. Every club does it mate. Whether the fans stay behind is another story but every club does it at the end of their last home match.

I still won't be staying. I've given them support all season at games and they ended up in a relegation battle for reasons only known to themselves. They got more than enough points and performances against the supposed better sides in this division to prove they are better than many say they are.
Too many of them have tossed it off when they shouldn't have and of course, numerous coaches have made as many mistakes as they have good decisions that together have cost us both in performances and points at key stages of the season.
I don't agree with booing and never have really. Just a polite exit from the stadium for me and a nice "Have a good summer and see you next year where hopefully we'll finish in the top half at the 7th time of asking".
I think the club need sending a very stark but respectful message that this season has been nowhere near good enough and a quiet, empty stadium is a very powerful message to send.
Each to their own though.

I’ll stay as I have nothing concrete to rush back home for and the kids like going down to the front and interacting with the players. If I had plans I’d be straight out of the gates and back to the car.
It’s not that deep…….

Why do folk make a big fuss about this???
The players do a lap to thank the fans after a long season and thats about it. It's very simple.
People are over complicating this.
Calling it a lap of honour is a bit of a misnomer for starters and seems to confuse some of our supporters.
It's a just simple gesture and an opportunity for the fans to interact with the players and vice versa. It's no big deal, it's not really about judging the players on what they have and haven't achieved and every club does it.

Strange isn't it
Hundreds partied at Brighton after relegation and some getting upset over the players applauding the fans for their brilliant support .
You don't have to stay. If they walked off at the final whistle and didn't acknowledge the fans we'd have some getting all worked up

Harmless bit of fun and nice opportunity for youngsters to see the players and get photos, shirt signed etc. Its not aimed at the few grumpy old gits on here.

A lad sat behind me got a players signature on his shirt a few weeks ago, he was over the moon, then we lost but he was still in good spirits. Me personally at nearly 40 will be out the stadium getting home for dinner!

We should all turn our backs to them when they do their lap.
Then boo their wags and kids off the pitch.
If we have enough still in the stands after that we would charge the executive boxes!

I've spent the last few days filling water balloons with piss. Not just mine, got 2 cats at home too. Gonna tie them round my waist to sneak them in, I just hope we dont score so I dont get squashed in any celebrations.

The wags will be the best thing we’ve seen all season on that pitch! In all seriousness, just do it straight from the final whistle. Let’s not act like this season has been amazing and let’s brush it under the carpet as soon as we can.

Hmmmm, ashamed is a bit over the top. Why deploy a modicum of reflection when histrionics and hyperbole are available. They’ve barely put in effort over the course of the season and have essentially scraped by doing as little as possible. It’s not worth applause. Barring 2-3 players, the rest have been pathetic over the course of the season.

Those who don't like 2-year-old kids can just boo them. Everyone's a winner.

The last time I stayed for the lap of honour, it was about halfway through our Premier League years. Glenn Whelan was playing; I remember him having a kick about with his young son and it was pretty clear that he just loved footie (Glenn, that is). Since then I just haven’t hung around, mainly because I have a long journey home and my wife has got the dinner on.

Barring 2-3 players, the rest have been pathetic over the course of the season. I suspect the dye was cast with Neil in the first half of the season thinking they could just dawdle their way to a mid table finish. It is extremely hard to pick up the pace after the rot/arrogance sets in.

Do they have to walk around the pitch though, they could just stand in the directors box and applaud all the fans,or do it in the centre circle.

The players and staff are thanking US for managing to maintain a level of support when, on the pitch, things have been generally poor. I think recent performances will mean more stay on after the final whistle than might have intended, but I reckon the majority will be leaving on (or before ) the ref's toot

I'd prefer they just got on with it after a quick break on the sidelines, I'm not too worried about seeing toddlers stroll around either. Cutting to the chase always gets my vote.

When I was a youth in a jumper, I can recall the last game of the season always involved a pitch invasion, no matter what kind of season we had had. Grimsby at home in the 90 relegation season sticks in the mind, although this may have been fuelled by a bit of revenge in the air after the game at their place. I may be wrong but I remember running on after the Luton game in 94 at the end of Joe Jordan's first season. Utterly fucking pointless when I think about it!
Each to their own with this I think. I can see why those with kids might want to stick around but bearing in mind how this season has been, I'll be on the way back to the Kingsway/Glebe at the final whistle!
