Radio stoke is so less enjoyable. We have Rob Adcock talking nonsense and Sohail no better. Who cares if you’ve got biscuits, a cup of tea or chocolate. You are supposed to paint pictures for those listening on the radio, that’s all we ask. I enjoyed the likes of Sandoz, Acres etc who were very good. But hey, what do I know 🤣

Have you made your point of view known to the BBC/BBC Radio Stoke and asked for reply which you can post, If not why not?

You do get to know if they are eating a biscuit or passing the sweets around. It’s as if the football is boring at times.

Yep he's fine Some will moan no matter who we have and nit pick at everything he says. So what if he talks about a cup of tea etc when nothing else to talk about We had the same moaners with Nige before, waiting for him to get a name wrong so they could say, get rid etc

I don't listen that often, but the bits I've heard Sohail has improved massively.
I think him and Ange or Denis Smith are the best combos......

As long as not Pejic as I think the Samaritans must get busy during his summaries Ange is knowledgeable and tells it as it is. If we were 3+0 up in the Champions League final, Pejic would moan about the weather and how it was better in his day

In my opinion of speaking to those working at RS, they do listen to all comments. The more we let our feelings known , the more they have to listen. I would say that Sohail is aware of the criticism, and is trying his best to fill some immense shoes. He is a nice guy. Yes, he wobbles on about his own pet peccadilloes endlessly, and a good co-commentator will often bring him back down to earth to remind him of a piece of goal mouth action. He has character and passion and believe me, he is taking all of this feedback in

I like Sohail with Ange or Denis Smith also.
I must admit I watch on Stoke TV so not sure how they sound on the radio - they do go off on a few tangents, but normally because theres nothing happening on the pitch

It takes time to get a feel for the club, its fans, the listeners in general and to form your own style on the radio and I think a nice bloke doing a decent job........

He’s certainly got better but needs someone to bounce off during commentary. Ange and Callas are the best, Denis Smith is ok but Pejic, Cranson, Clarke, Zakuani etc are all dreadful and don’t bring any knowledge or indeed humour with them.

Must have missed that, but noticed him on a lot of RS threads/posts.

On 9.10.23 I emailed a Freedom of Information FOI request to BBC Radio Stoke as follows: Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and subject to the exclusions provided for the BBC (information held for purposes other than those of journalism, art or literature), I request the following information. I believe these requests are concerning the administration, business process and financial undertakings of the organisation and not creative activities. 1. How many applicants were there for the position vacated by Mr Nigel Johnson at the end of the 2022/23 football season? 2. What was the criteria for selection for the position? 3. Who and what position(s) held within the organisation made the decision on the appointment? Does this person or persons have the authority for future hire or fire decisions on Stoke City live commentary position? 4. What attributes did the successful candidate hold over the other applicants? 5. Why was the position filled by an applicant that resides in South London, which due to travel to home games, increases the carbon footprint over a local candidate? 6. Who receives the funds for paid subscriptions to receive the live commentary via Stoke City Football Club? 7. s Radio Stoke funding determined in anyway by listener numbers? End of FoI request. The reply dated 6.11.23 from Information Rights, BBC Legal, Wogan House, London:Information that relates to the BBC’s output, or information that supports and is closely associated with these creative activities, is considered to be held by the BBC for the purposes of art, journalism or literature. Such information held by the BBC and other public service broadcasters falls outside the scope of the FOI Act. BBC and other public service broadcasters can preserve their independence by ensuring information about matters including editorial decisions about programming and budgets allocated to such programming, are not subject to undue public scrutiny. If you disagree with our decision you can appeal to the Information Commissioner.I appealed to the Information Commissioners Office (Ombudsman) on 20.11.23.On 27.2.24 the ICO replied:I'm satisfied that the BBC handled your request appropriately. The information you requested in parts 1-5 and part 7 concerns the BBC's 'output', its 'talent' (ie its presenters) and editorial decisions it makes about its output and talent. This type of information isn't covered by FOIA and the BBC isn't obliged to respond to requests for this information under FOIA.
The BBC/Radio Stoke do not, and will not, reply to comments on editorial content. Anything approaching an FOI is sent to BBC Legal and is rejected with reference to exceptions granted under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Hopefully, this puts to bed once and for all the futility of contacting RS over the content or quality of it's match commentary. Apologies for the long reply but it took over 4 months to be told to piss off.

Anybody fancy trying the job?
Two hours or more of total continuous Ad-libbing talk and remaining interesting and engaging in conversation is quite difficult.
The guy has improved and I have noticed that he is slowly becoming a Stoke fan using pronouns such as We etc.

Slightly off topic but did anyone hear the guy on P&G who phoned in from the pub in Leek? Comedy gold! It took me a short while to work out where he was sitting in the ground to watch the game. "The chap sitting in front of me with a pint of lager, and the lady drinking Gin and Tonic thought we were poor in the first half" 😊

Earlier in the season I was the first to criticise the Radio Stoke output but as the season has gone on it has got better and better.
Sohail struggled to begin with (and I think he would admit that) but as the season has progressed he’s got better and you can tell he genuinely cares now and with each passing week sounds more like a fan. I can also tell he’s a really nice human being and the criticism he got from me (amongst others) was uncalled for.
I was also worried Rob Adcock wouldn’t be able to bring to life praise and grumble but he’s done it ever so well. So much so I don’t think I’ve enjoyed listening to the sports shows as much since the days of John Acres.
Whereas the BBC have thrown quite a lot of local radio onto the scrap heap (that’s another discussion for the other board) the sports shows have been a shining light. If the BBC ever tried to change it to a wider regionalised broadcast I’d be fuming! Let’s appreciate what we have whilst it’s here! Before too long we could be sharing the show with a dozen or so other clubs and get a five minute mention each week!
