Not surprised people are annoyed. This whole transgender issue needs to be sorted properly. Why not introduce a new trans category? It’s easy to see why a female would be upset that her record/best time was beaten by a trans person. It’s not a level playing field.

I can understand why women get pissed off - they’ve had this shit for 4 years but within 24 hours of it affecting blokes all of a sudden it’s an issue!

It's far worse than that Noustie as the discussion went around the table yesterday morning one young woman pointed out the fact that "men" were even taking their records now I've got a few female friends who hold Parkrun records which have been wiped out overnight. I was speaking to one yesterday who's enjoyed travelling over the region in recent years to target Parkrun records and she said that she probably wouldn't bother now. I held one a few years back which was subsequently taken by another runner, I think anyone would be pretty pissed off to find they'd been removed.

There are prominent although retired sports women speaking up on the subject together with a fair few men.

So if a man runs 16:59 and another runs 17:01 in the same race, the 16:59 won't be counted? I must have got that wrong, as there are 3 runners under 17 minutes here: www.parkrun.org.uk/bromley/results/latestresults/It makes national news when an elite athlete breaks a parkrun record - great publicity to attract more people. There's an allure that you can potentially run the same course at the same time of day as an Olympic athlete.

I think it's a fine balance between attracting club runners and those that take the race very seriously, with those that turn up for this particular event because it's inclusive, good fun and a great introduction to those at the start of their running journey. After all the whole ethos of Parkrun is that you compete against yourself and your own PB and it's not a race like most others. I know of a couple of Junior Parkrun's that have been spoilt by a massive influx of club runners. There's one fairly local to me that gets about 12/15 regularly which initially boosted the numbers of kids running, but some of the less able runners appear to have drifted away, as did the parent bringing them who volunteered. The parents of the club runners haven't filled that void as they are too busy standing on the sidelines pushing and encouraging little Johnnie to win the race to volunteer.

I did that at one in Salisbury 18 months ago when down for a wedding, it was 4 laps and no fun being lapped by him, I think he was a GB rather than Olympian though. My sports physio is an ex GB athlete, and won Delamere Forest PR when she did it, which wasn't very often, I had a massage at lunchtime off her and she was wearing a Port Vale sweatshirt (she's a Man Utd fan who does go) apparently one of her clients is a young lad just signed his pro contract and broken into the first team. This was her many years ago. www.messengernewspapers.co.uk/news/7235702.top-ranked-louise-claims-another-big-honour/
