A bit unfair that…Tymon is a left wingback where as Gooch most definitely isn’t, he’s playing way out of position .

I’m not big on Gooch, but I don’t think we’d be better off if we kept Tymon.

Tymon’s biggest strength was playing a low ball into the box. We never win those balls, so he’d be crap for us now.

Stop rewriting history, Tymon was a shit left back. Decent wing back, terrible as a full back, but still far better than any options we have now though.

I’m not big on Gooch, but I don’t think we’d be better off if we kept Tymon. Off course we would, we don't have a left sides defender. And one thing he had that none of our players have, and that is he had the wish to play for Stoke and loyalty to the club.

Opinions I suppose. Tymon to me was indecisive as fuck and most of the time always cut back rather than having a go on the outside or inside. Flashes of promise but never really delivered for Stoke. His stats aren't good

Stop rewriting history, Tymon was a shit left back. Better than anything we have now. As Ange said on P&G we may as well kept Fox if the only other option was Stevens. Selling Tymon for the money offered was the right thing to do.

I think Gooch is okay, not brilliant granted but not one of our top 50 concerns at the moment. I don’t mind Gooch. I think he’s a good squad player. I think he’s an excellent player to play in front of Junior because they’d outwork most flanks. He’s just not a left back. He’s a winger. He doesn’t understand the role well enough. He’s not a right back either, the Sunderland game showed that (though Clarke is a beast). We’ll concede a lot of goals out wide if we persist with wingers as full backs in a flat four. Tymon has 5-6 assists this season already.

Another case of remembering players as far better than they were with Tymon Absolutely the right thing to do accepting the sale. As a defender he wasn't short of poor at best. Wasn't too bad on his day in the opposition half . The Gooch comment above borders on stupidity.

Don't let Gooch become a scapegoat for the club hierarchy. Just like when we sold Pieters in 2019 and assumed that Bruno Martins Indi or James McClean would be acceptable as makeshift left-back. Just like in 2022 when we were still short in that position and Tony Scholes responded in a really patronising way ("what left-back situation?") to an entirely fair question in a fans forum www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-season-tickets-coronavirus-3959073We have made exactly the same stupid blunder this season. Maybe Tymon wasn't that good. But he actually is a left-footed left-back who drove us forward on that side of the pitch and could stick a cross in on his stronger foot. Not replacing him this summer was stupid. Deciding we were okay in that position the January, and that Gooch or Thompson could do a job there, was an even more stupid decision. We are a club in crisis and the club keeps on making the same mistakes, time and time again. The managers change, the scouting and transfer team change, but decisions do not. Gooch has been one of the few summer signings who actually seems to give a shit, making him take the flak for the club not signing a proper left-back gives the leadership a free pass.
