Pete Smith's Notebook Sounds like he does regret his decisions here to me, as he should. A real waste of talent I reckon. The sulking off the pitch saga and the subsequent Hughes' response sounds very weird. If true, it's no real wonder the players started to run their own show so disastrously.

How old was he meant to be when he signed for us? Looks about 40 in the photo on the story!

Too late you tosspot. Players like you put us in this position
Couldn’t give a shit about the club
Why is Pete smith wasting his time interviewing players and managers who look back and admit their mistakes.
Mystifying

Bored shitless of all this retrospective chat.
Unless it's about the good times, I don't want to hear it. Suppose it's the world that we live in, content overload.

His performances as soon as he joined were some of the best I’ve seen in a stoke shirt. Especially Chelsea away.
What happened after that initial spell was ridiculous…

A ridiculously talented player who threw it all away. Even now he still isn't at a big club so he obviously hasn't learned much since leaving us.
At least with this signing you could see talent for the money even though it went wrong, as for Wimmer what the fuck were we thinking. Imbula was part of the problem but we had enough to cope without him but completely messed up our investments in our defence with this one crazy signing.

Not the cause but definitely a symbol of our downfall

Bored shitless of all this retrospective chat. Unless it's about the good times, I don't want to hear it. Suppose it's the world that we live in, content overload. I personally find it interesting. One of the mysteries of the last few years was what went on in Imbula's head and why his form suddenly fell off a cliff after his initial great start. Now we have an inkling about what was going on. Also an insight into Hughes' weak man management and shows how it reached the point at the end where the players were running the show once the dressing room authoritarians like Whelan and Walters had left the club. Certainly shows how important they were in Hughes initial successful years. Yeah Imbula is the forgivable one. You can see the talent, you can see why we went for him and it could have really paid off. Wimmer is the one that makes absolutely no sense.

Pete Smith doesn’t interview them, he just sees interviews online that are readily available to all of us but listens to the shite so we don’t have to then summarises.

We should have doubled or tripled our money on Imbula, yes we can forgive the club for that one for sure but definitely not forgiving the player. We were well an truly shafted with Wimmer, possibly the best deal Tottenham have ever done.

We will never know what really went on, the downfall of Hughes was Berahino. TP must have splurged in his pants when he offloaded that twat.

Absolutely waste. That January onwards he was absolutely class, running the show away at Chelsea.
What could have been, obviously us rejecting Juve melted his head and Hughes handling of the situation is disastrous at best.

Why is Pete smith wasting his time interviewing players and managers who look back and admit their mistakes. Mystifying No mystery at all. Smith hasn't done a single interview this week, not with G and the others anyway. He's merely referring to a variety of articles and interviews that he's read elsewhere. One of them was in French, so we can surmise Imbula still hasn't learned English. Imbula does admit mistakes, but I have to say that for a little pre season incident to be blown out out of any proportion is beyond ridiculous. So this little non-event is the root cause of why we fell apart? Laughable. No, it's definitely not good or acceptable behaviour, but over the course of the season there were many other problems, and all it was was really symptomatic of how Mark Hughes' style of management, which was very laissez faire, finally stopped working. But can you blame him, after the Pulis regime, everyone loved the freedom they were given by MH. and they answered to the idiomatic 'freedom with responsibility'; you could see on the pitch how everybody answered to the call, and the football at times was sheer delight. Until it wasn't. The freedom was abused, yes by Imbula but others as well, who failed to act responsibly..

We will never know what really went on, the downfall of Hughes was Berahino. TP must have splurged in his pants when he offloaded that twat. I think we learned a little more. That Diouf was the only one who looked after him, and since he too was having personal problems of a different nature, as we all know, that really meant Imbula was alone. Should he have learned English, so he could say, g'morn, yes, but he'd been moved on in a hurry and no help was offered to him. We had other overseas players, but they, like Bojan, already knew some English.

Berahino had ability though, Hughes was extremely unlucky with a couple of signings we made. We signed some quality players under Hughes but the bad and the ones that went really wrong were a disaster. He took risks on players with reputations and in fairness did well with most of them. Some come off and some don't but the ones that didn't seem to come off were the most expensive ones. Eventually I think too many disruptive players led to a poor dressing room.

The epitome of a player whose attitude and ability were pole's apart.
His performance at Stamford Bridge was one of the best individual performances from a Stoke player I have ever seen live. He was everywhere. Similar against Watford as well. Reminiscent of Yaya Toure.
Unfortunately those two performances were far outweighed by absolute half-arsed dross, and that was on a matchday.
Absolute f*cking charlatan.

I think everyone else who was at the Porto game in Cologne would agree he looked very useful, he gave us a torrid time, but that was one game, a friendly, and he wanted to put on a show to get away from Porto. It worked for him.
Rather like marrying some tart you've had one magic night with, only to find she was simply after your money, doesn't really like sex and gets stroppy when you won't let her run off with your richer mate.
A little bit of due diligence and a psychological profile would surely have avoided all the pain.

One rotten apple can spoil the barrel.
Hughes managed to bring in a few rotten apples, and repeat what happened at QPR. It wasn't just Imbula.
