I occasionally try a thin spread of mustard under the cheese. Must admit I have started to microwave them recently. Always have cheese and tomatoes on matchdays⚓ Tinned (chopped or plum?) or fresh? I love a bacon and tinned plum tomato sandwich, must try it on oatcakes.

Well yes, I did know beforehand, but in my defence she has got a smashing pair of bangers. However, Cheshire fucking cheese mate?!? Christ! Might as well put soap on them! The maturist of cheddars only! Have you smothered the bangers in nuttella, cheese or sauce? Certainly not Cheshire.

I'll certainly take the black pudding tip on board, tried Asda's veggie version once (I'm no vegetarian), surprisingly it was ok.

Why in God's name would a vegetarian want an alternative to solidified pigs blood?!? The mind boggles

Either you waited until after the wedding to introduce her, or you knew before. Either way this one's on you mate! Cheshire cheese is good on them though. Well yes, I did know beforehand, but in my defence she has got a smashing pair of bangers. However, Cheshire fucking cheese mate?!? Christ! Might as well put soap on them! The maturist of cheddars only! We all have to decide what matters most don't we?! Mine's American and takes what she's given so far. Dunno what I'd do if she started putting marshmallows and maple syrup on them. Obviously mature cheddar is the standard, but for a bit of variety I promise Cheshire or that vintage red Leicester from Aldi are good for variety. Maybe I've just got refined tastebuds!

I'm strictly conservative when it comes to the oatcakes I'm afraid. If it doesn't belong on a full English, it doesn't belong in a cheese oatcake. I would be interested to know people's preferred method of prep and cooking though. Are you a one or two 'lanes' of cheese kinda person or do you just indiscriminately dump a tonne of grated on there? I'd be particularly interested in knowing if anyone can achieve a decent level of caramelisation on the cheese without overly crisping the oatcake. Grill the cheese on a tin plate and spread😉 nothing better than letting the cheese overcook slightly so you can scrape it off the tin plate with a knife

And mopping up the cheese fat with a drizzle of HP Once had a conversation with someone about cooking bacon on a tin plate. "On a tin plate ?" she exclaimed incredulously."Doesn't all the bacon fat stay on the plate ?" Me : " Er…yeah !!.That's the whole point "!!

They used to do curried oatcakes as a starter in Sanjeevs Indian in Baddeley Green. Not sure if they still do them as not been for a long time but they were bloody lovely.

French brie. Has to be French - Somerset brie is for people who don't like brie.
Somerset cheddar is a different matter. Especially good in an oatcake with Branston pickle.

I can imagine that working well, like curry pizza's. Curry pizza sounds wrong until you've tried a Madras pizza and it's blown your socks off.

Tesco brought the curry pizza in when I was stacking shelves there. People were obviously weirded out because they ended up discounted to 10p on the best before date. Fantastic £1 experiment.
