No ta having access to the best young talent with the U21's doesn't equate to success at club level.

Surprised he's been linked with a bottom half Championship side tbh

There is already a thread regarding new manager choices where Carsley has been discussed to death.

Can we not just merge with managerial thread

Can we not just merge with managerial thread Nah, The Oatcake is better when there are more threads. More organic and easy to follow than random thread necromancy, too.

You have to spend all your time on the managerial thread and if there are multiple links, there are multiple different subjects being discussed at the same time. We are looking for a manager, each link should be individual.

Thoughts on Lee Carsley and apparently have held talks and currently Englands u21 boss!.. Would think they've held initial talks with dozens, and probably most of the names already mentioned. Once they dismiss those who aren't interested, too expensive. Or they just don't fancy. Then the next round of talks with a chosen handful will take place. I guess we're only just approaching that stage, narrowing down to a smaller number at this point.

More threads give more opportunities for abuse and unfounded gossip and brings the dark side of the Oatie MB more into focus.

Gamble
He has no experience managing a club and hasn’t been tested. Coaching willing juveniles and managing a struggling championship club are chalk and cheese.

Anyone who takes the job is taking a gamble too!! Ours has been a basket-case club for too long now, and a loaf of decent bread has a good chance of lasting longer than a Stoke City manager. Given our recent record, therefore, we really should not be looking a gift horse in the mouth if someone like Carsley makes himself available to us. He has left a positive (or very positive) impression in every coaching job that he has held. He has worked at club level with Man City, so he would not be entirely un-used to club football.
Clearly, he has the Midas touch with young players, who seem to buy in to his playing philosophy; either that, or he sees what he has to work with, and builds a style to suit the players. Whatever it is, it works.
Yes, he would be coming into a situation where he is working with other peoples players. Let's not forget, though, that those players have shown through their performances against the likes of Sunderland, Leeds and others, that they can play. It's not that they don't have it; it just needs to be re-discovered, and I think that Carsley, with his clear coaching acumen, and his ability to make training hard, but entertaining, is the guy to do it.
Finally, with his success with the English U21's, surely a better quality of young player would be tempted to come to a club where he is coach?

People close to him suggest he has been building up to his first managerial role for 14 years. Kevin Kilbane reckons he's turned down a few champo clubs before. I think he knows exactly what he is looking for.
