Watched a bit of tonight's win over Netherlands.Good win ... But does any one understand the qualifying for the Olympics..Its team GB for the Olympics but we are in same group as Scotland and play them next in the Women's Nation League..?? Totally confused.... The fact England are in the same group as Scotland would ordinarily be seen as a massive conflict of interest, but if you watched the first game where England beat Scotland 2-1 you would have definitely seen that Scotland were giving heart, nerve and sinew to put one over on their rivals - so that puts that one to bed. England have been awful in this comp so far, lots of players out of form or injured and they have looked very ordinary. Ideally they needed to beat the Dutch side by 2 clear goals tonight to have a realistic chance of qualifying and hope that Scotland could get a result against Belgium. Scotland did get a result against Belgium but England failed to beat the Dutch by 2 clear goals, meaning that the head to heads of the Dutch and England are level, so it will go to goal difference of which the Dutch are a lot better off than us(3 goals). England will face a very good Scottish side if full strength away at Hampden in their last game, while the Dutch will play Belgium at home and on paper looks a formality - in short barring something miraculous England will finish second in the group, at best, and fail to make the semi-finals - only the top teams in the 4 Group-A matches will make the semi-finals - If England lose to Scotland in their final match then that would not only knock us out of the Olympics/Nations League but also cause problems with qualifying for the Euros if we finish 3rd in the group as a result. If, by chance, England do make it to the semi-finals and France the host nation(olympics) make it to the finals then England could qualify for the Olympics by finishing 3rd in the nations league. However if England do make it past the semi-finals and to the final then they will automatically qualify for the Olympics no matter what France do - top 2 teams(finalists) qualify for Olympics. In short - we needed to win by 2 clear goals tonight to stick a chance of finishing first in this group - despite the last minute winner by England tonight, the Dutch would have been happy with that result before the game started, and will be odds on to beat Belgium in the final game and top the group - however Belgium have plenty to play for themselves and could still top the group if they beat the Dutch and England fail to beat Scotland. Given how poor England have been and that they were being outclassed tonight and 2-0 down then you have to say well done to the ladies for coming back and at least making it interesting - but not looking good for finishing top in this group no matter how we perform against the Scots and therefore only a minimal chance of qualifying for the Olympics Hope that makes it easier to understand
