Personally, I'd of thought paying for an away trip for the Season Ticket Holder's would be a more worthwhile gesture from the club, from a STH's perspective. Thinking about it, we don't actually gain anything from the initiative.

It's a strange one to be honest maybanker, as a season ticket holder I don't really give a toss how little people are paying to get in on a Saturday (or Sunday!) I've paid my money and guaranteed my seat and don't have to mess about getting tickets every week, I love to see the ground full and buzzing but you do make a valid point however. If season ticket holders were all giving the freebies to family members who wouldn't normally be going to the game then obviously it is a good deal for them but it would seem that nobody is actually going to pay to get in today other than season ticket holders as you rightly say. It is a very generous move by the club though and should be applauded but perhaps maybe if they really wanted to reward season ticket holders then perhaps they should look at discounting say the FA Cup tie (if the FA allow such schemes?) Still it will look much better on TV with full seats instead of a load of empty ones. Lets have a win to go with it and maybe more of the people who aren't paying today will return and back the club in the future.

Jamo,
The club are trying to make this initiative out to be beneficial to Season Ticket Holders, the statement 'We can't forget our Season Ticket Holders'. The only scenario, as you mention, that is beneficial to STH is that people have family members that they have given tickets to.
Otherwise, we're the people paying in the stands. I haven't an issue with the initiative, I have an issue with the club trying to make people believe that it is done with the STH's interests. Giving STH's free or discounted tickets for the 'Castle game WOULD benefit us.

what about the watford fans, the £5 shef weds voucher holders ?
MOAN MOAN MOAN FUCKING MOAN MOAN SHUT THE FUCK UP
I've got a Season Ticket , not going today , as its cheaper to goto a pub in london than drive up, I have passed my free vouchers on to someone else , last week I happily got 2 £6 tickets for my wife and kid brother to come to the game , instead of them moaning it would be £20 each and me going on my tod .
and as for Nath's suggestion, how the fuck would that benefit the club ? giving money to another team , look at it this way, empty seat at our ground ... costs us not alot extra in staff costs to stick a bum on it and hope they spend some cash elsewhere within the club structure .... or they could pay money to take a percentage of the season ticket holders to an away game ....
point 1 being , which away end would hold ALL the season ticket holders
point 2 being everyone of of those ST holders without an ID card would MOAN MOAN MOAN MOAN FUCKING MOAN
AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH

All i can say is,
it's a nice change for the club to be actually trying.
I never thought i'd say this but,
nice one Mr Coates.

The only way the club could do it would be through a home cup tie as realistically they aren't going to outlay money on away tickets as it is a direct expense and the money would also be leaving our club and going on the bottom line of another one which is just plain daft.

It was an example, Dave. Having not thought the logistics through, you've named some of the problems of that suggestion.
The point that I'm trying to convey is that the club are trying to 'make out' like it is a initiative for the STH's. The fact that STH's will probably make up a great percentage of the paying customers, means that there is no obvious game for the STH's - thus it is NOT a initiative by the club that is rewarding the STH's.

You have gained....you've gained a queueing up experience, having to "haggle" with mates who haven't been since Mick Mills was in charge and then finding out they would prefer to watch it on the box anyway

You're not thinking like businessmen - you could sell your free vouchers for a reasonable amount and recoup the money you've effectively spent on this game!
£10 for the adult ticket and £5 for the concession would be reasonable I'd have thought.

I gained a couple of free pints off my mate who I gave my free tickets to. So not complaining.
The fact that the ground was more full than usual for a televised game created a better atmosphere which made for a more enjoyable match day experience.
Well done to the club.

Fuck me. I actually had a little bet with myself that even the whinging fucking ST holders wouldn't be able to find fault with such a generous offer as today's. The club gives a couple of great little incentives for people to come to the ground - ST holders moan. *puts on crybaby voice* "oooh it's not fair, we've paid up front, we're special, we want a discount too." So the club ACTUALLY RESPONDS and gives a ridiculously generous offer to ST holders of TWO FREE MATCH TICKETS and STILL the ST holders moan. I mean, what do you fucking want? Presumably as everyone else is getting so much better a deal, you want a refund on your STs and you can go back to queueing up every week, paying 20-odd quid a game and sitting in a different seat every time? Well here's an idea - next season don't renew your fucking ST and live the life of riley just like the rest of us do. ps isn't it great not having a fucking swear filter ;D

20,000 in the ground and we're the only ones who've paid to get in!!! ??? ? PotterLog, It does not make sense. The STH's whinge about not being included in discounted games.....so the club then introduces an initiative where the STH's form 90% of those supporters who've paid anything.

well I thought it was a nice gesture
I paid £260 for my ST which works out @ around £11.30/game chuffed with that as it is, then I get a freebie and I took my Dad
I'm well satisfied with how the club are treating the ST holders
why should they give discount to ST holders for the Newcastle game - they need to make as much money as poss
just can't believe people moaning

I went down yesterday to buy two tickets. I didn't have Sheff Wed stubs, so it was full price for me. I wanted to sit in block 25, but I was told it was full. OK then, what about block 24? Err... no.
Being that I wanted an adult and an under 11, I thought stuff it, I'll try half way up block 32 (family stand). Block 32 was full as well!! I ended up settling for row 8 block 33.
I saw loads of empty spaces in all of the blocks I'd tried to book seats in.
I think it was a great initiative by the club. They tried to give season ticket holders something back, whilst at the same time, putting bums on seats in front of the cameras.
I wasn't bothered that I struggled to sit where I wanted. I just thought it was a shame that more people weren't sitting in the "free" seats that the club offered.

I'm a ST holder. I went to see the match. It didnt bother me that others got in cheaper/free, I still saw the same match. The club might not have made any money on free admissions, they obviusly didn't, but it might have helped the lads to have a couple more thousand shouting for them. As a ST, I'm not promised that there won't be others watching cheaper, but I do get a discount. A lot of peope, especially the younger suppporters might struggle to afford a ST what with all their other commitments, so let's welcome the fact that they did turn up. I love the Brit when there's a good gate, a rare commodity theses days, and anything to put bums on seats, I'll gp along with.

I'm not a STH, but my wife and I go to every home game we can afford and have done so for some years now and sometimes we take our children along with us aswell. We both thought that what Mr Coates and the club did to give the STH's 2 free tickets was a superb gesture and probably the best one they have ever come up with to try and fill the brit and bring back many of those lost fans, but unfortunatley after trying very hard and asking all of our STH friends, of which are not many, we were unable to get hold of any of those free tickets. So reluctantly we decided to stay at home and watch it on the tv. We both, maybe naively expected the crowd to be over 20,000 but seeing all those empty seats we were surprised as to why we were unable to get any tickets for free and can only conclude, that maybe the awareness of such a scheme in the future should be better publicised or managed differently. This is not a gripe but quite the contary, so thankyou Mr Coates. See you all on the 22nd when we take another 3 points off the Baggies. ;D

I can't believe that people can find something to moan about with this offer. My friend and I took four friends who would otherwise not have been at the game, and we were more than happy to do so. It never occurred to me that I might be getting the shitty end of the stick here.
If you add up the cost of paying for 23 games match-by-match, taking into account all the special offers and premium games, I'm quite sure us STHs are still better off at the end of the season, even without the less obvious benefits of having one.
My only criticism of the club with this offer is that it wasn't publicised well enough. On Friday, a couple of STHs I know weren't aware of the offer. Otherwise it's a big "Well done" to Coates and Co.
