I like the Beatles and have a few albums but I've always thought them a tad over rated. Don't get me wrong they wrote some brilliant stuff and were pretty innovative but they also wrote some guff. There were other bands around at the time who did stuff that was just as good if not better in some respects. The new song is pretty meh and pointless tho.

No band has come close and never will. They’ve been omnipresent in my life since I listened to the blue album with my mate back in the early 70s, what they achieved in such a short time is remarkable. I hate to use such superlatives as “changed the face of music” but they actually did …..their songs still sound as fresh today as they did decades ago. There is a quality to each song, and the way they differ from one song to the next, is remarkable. i’ve passed this love of the Beatles down to my two lasses, who themselves listen to them a lot and they are both in their mid 20s. I’m surprised by Jesusmac….. He’s one of my favourite posters on here I find him hilarious, but now he’s burst my bubble a little

I’ve never, ever got the Beatles, or the adoration they receive. If there is one band I could go back and be there for their hay-day it would be Fleetwood Mac, I really feel like I missed out there, but not the sodding Beatles.

Oh I agree some of those later albums are the ones own. All I'm saying is there were bands on the west coast of America developing the Psychedelic sound and the likes of Bob Dylan who heavily influenced the Beatles as well as the likes of Ravi Shankar. In the end its all about tastes and opinions. Beatles fans will think they were the greatest band ever non Beatles fans will think otherwise. I personally think Led Zeppelin were better than the Beatles bit that's me.

I think what sums up the Beatles for me is these top 10 lists where they are automatically out at No1 because they're the Beatles.
I saw one that had Paul Mc as the greatest bass player of all time which is of course beyond ludicrous but my fave had to be the best album sleeve of all time, The White album. Genius doing a white sleeve because it's The Beatles. Had someone else done the same, and they had then is plain boring, because it's the Beatles it's some kind of genius move. A bit art really.

It was the other way round. Sgt. Pepper was released a full year after Pet Sounds. McCartney in particular was heavily influenced by Pet Sounds in the making of Sgt. Pepper. Though to be fair Brian Wilson acknowledges he was trying to better Rubber Soul when he made Pet Sounds.

I don’t care much for their honky-tonk stuff from the first three albums, but when Lennon and McCartney started writing songs on LSD trips they started to come into their own from the fourth album onwards and the songs were more innovative and textured.

This is very good Each to their own, I think it’s a load of old shite! Fair play to em mind Never liked the rolling stones either. Aside from maybe Angie. I think Painted black would have been better sung by pretty much any other band to ever exist. Although popular, every time I hear it I feel it's never reached it's full potential. The sound quality is bad, the volume on the vocals v actual music could be much better.

Totally bizarre. How and why? Because people can’t let nostalgia go. It makes you feel all fuzzy and warm. It’s why the same crap movies/songs are played over and over again at Christmas.
