Now this name may appear controversial to even suggest as a possible person to fill this role, but he's a character that has worked well at Chelsea, Liverpool & Aston Villa... Christian Purslow. Yes I get it might not be a project he's particularly keen on getting involved with as we appear in a mess on the pitch, but he knows his way around a football club & actually delivers. He oversaw Villa's climb to the Premier League, so has navigated the Championship before. & while appointing Steve Gerrard to replace Dean Smith wasn't his best idea at the time, despite being universally accepted at the time by Villa fans due to Gerrards success at Rangers, when it was wasn't working out Purslow decisively chopped Gerrard & was instrumental in appointing Unai Emery before he moved oh, & just look where Aston Villa are right now. Maybe pie in the sky or a non starter, but to my knowledge Christian Purslows available as he left Villa last summer & clearly knows how to operate a football club. He brought Chelsea big sponsorship deals in, & at Liverpool was instrumental in getting the then detested Hicks & Gillet out of Liverpool FC. He's a character Villa fans still like to this day, how many CEO's, Technical Directors etc could Stoke fans say they'd still respect and even like after leaving us for pastures new?! Just a thought and a different name to add to the mix. This is a review of his time at Villa by a fan. Seems to hit alot of the requirements Stoke as a club require right now. 7500toholte.sbnation.com/2023/6/12/23757988/goodbye-to-aston-villa-ceo-christian-purslowCheck out this post from Aston Villa Football Club www.avfc.co.uk/news/2023/june/12/aston-villa-announce-departure-of-ceo-christian-purslow/I think thats a very decent shout you'd imagine he must be relatively 'local' to the midlands so potentially not a massive upheaval for a move to Stoke

Really hope this is just Pete spitballing some names, because boy some of the names in this article are hugely depressing if true imo. It would be madness to appoint anyone who has been here before. On SJW, I appreciate Jon has gone through his qualifications and worked hard to establish himself, but 6 months at Fleetwood is nowhere near enough experience to even begin to unravel this mess. It's what the press always does, trying to second guess the decisionmaker's thinking. It's exactly the same the Oatcake Mb always does in threads lasting hundreds of pages. It's extremely rare that anyone gets it completely right, but that said it would not be madness to employ someone who's been here before. It would be common sense, provided the DOF-to-be has the right qualifications, is on wavelength with the board and is well thought of, in general and for the position, around the club. MON would for me be an excellent choice, because as "general manager" of NI, not just the national teams but the whole organisational structure there, he has experience which is somewhat similar to that of overseeing a club structure. Moreover he has a theoretical background which virtually no other DOF in the game has, although it appears that SJW at least has something of that order. Normally a university degree would stick out like a sore thumb in football, but MON of course knows exactly what it's like to manage a football club, having managed scfc. He knows the good and the bad of the ownership and the fanbase. The fact that he was sacked might be problematic if the departure had been adversarial but MON left on good terms with the board. However what will be problematic is that having left his position at NI headquarters once, would he be prepared to do the exact same thing so soon after being re-appointed? After all he is not a Nathan Jones-like turncoat, is he`

Someone to come in who actually understands the process and structures needed to 1, get a team out of the championship and 2, try and establish them back into a premier league team. One of the positives that Coates has and the reason they attract managers is the investment would be there if they got promoted and someone actually knew what to do with the money. And unlike when we first got promoted the infer structure is already in place facilities wise.

Isn't Purslow more of a CEO than Technical Director?

Years ago there was a show on TV where a top business man would go into a failing company and advise the owners how to turn it around. Maybe we should have done this.
Rather than appoint a new staff member, bring in an independent consultant, someone who has a ton of first hand experience of running a football club. Their job is not defined as fixing the club or making it better or improving performances on the pitch or anything like that, but simply to spend say 3 months observing everything that takes place on a day to day basis; from board room to changing room and everything else in between. And then to present an unbiased independent report and recommendations for discussion by all involved, - board, staff, players, supporters etc. Someone needs to pinpoint exactly what is going wrong as we seem to be locked into an endless spiral of decline.

Isn't Purslow more of a CEO than Technical Director? 🤔 I'm pretty sure the role is one of the same with different meanings at different clubs depending on the set up around them. CEO, Technical Director, Director of Football, it's generally the next role down from the board who bridges the gap between the playing staff & owners. In a similar way to a Manager, Head Coach is more or less one of the same, same role different meaning and all that.

So those who have been saying MON could do the job weren't talking bollocks then? It may just be the way it's worded, but it feels like MON would be open to a comeback in that sort of role. It's really hard to know, and it's another that probably hinges on how this season finishes. Stay in this league and we should be able to attract somebody of decent pedigree, but go the other way and that probably won't be the case. Yeah - possible Pete's just bouncing names around, but get the impression from that that he might very possibly be somewhere on the list if Walters doesn't absolutely wow them (however he could do that in a few weeks?) But MON did sign a 5 1/2 yr deal, so is contracted to the Northern Ireland FA until 2028, so don't know whether compo may be a problem, or how hard they'd fight for him , given they've won 3 games since his return and 2 were against San Marino (admittedly the other was against an already-qualified Denmark in November). So he's no longer the Pied Piper figure he was when we got him as manager - and if he did want the job, maybe an arrangement could be found as they seem to be trapped in a fallow period there which could be unsatisfying for all parties.

"We’ve got a very, very, very good young head coach, one of the best in the country in my opinion, who needs you. He doesn’t know what this place is like when it’s rocking. "“So this is a call to arms really. Let’s get this place, for the first 10 minutes, rocking. Sing Delilah until your heart bleeds, let’s get every song out there for 10 minutes. Give me 10 minutes. I need you to do that on Saturday"

He's bang on. I mean we even get off our feet excited at a decent 50 50 tackle. In fact it's nearly all we've had to get excited about recently. Let's hope SJW can sell this to some of the squad and they take note finally🙏

If those statements are where we’re at, then that’s we’re at. Whilst what Walters says may just be the most basic of rallying calls, I’m not going to argue with it.
We are desperate for something to go our way. I’ll be surprised if it has any bearing, but I will be doing what I can to get behind them on Saturday. It’s been a while since I’ve felt part of anything at Stoke. Maybe being in the shit will unite us.

He oversees football in every corner including for boys and girls in amateur clubs. He couldm't throw his weight around and be managing a scfc, which as we know is a lot harder than the hours that Hughes for instance put in. Because we're such a shambles, the club need s a complete restructuring, so for the foreseeable future it is a ft job
