SJW will have zero power, purely a vibes appointment. Considering we're a a shit show though, I'm not against it. Yeah I agree with that but....... surely "the management" has been pondering over this for a while and done some homework and succession planning (yeah I'm joking). One would have thought they had "names" filed under replacement DOF. "Purely for the fans" appointment and it will go down well in most quarters, will it help the shitshow we are in, probably not. Seems a face saving/diversion tactic exercise to be honest but what do I know and even if I did, I doubt anyone could fathom out what and how we are doing things. If this is a John Rudge type appointment, it will work. If we are still clouding the leadership then it won’t.

Think he’s been studying for that roll as has Huthy. He can’t do any worse than Martin and would be like a breath of fresh air

The man, the legend
If he just came to the games and ate a bag of Haribo in the stand it would be a plus for me

I loved Walters’ as a player (after Pulis left). However, this is a ridiculous appointment. Bringing in someone with limited experience to run a club on fire, oversee a manager who is very inexperienced and look after one of the worst Chairman in the league. The only real tick boxes are that if Martin was the architect of the toxic atmosphere then this will hopefully stop that and that this is a interim appointment so hopefully we do a better job in the summer. Knowing us though we'll end up scraping staying up and give it Walters full time in the summer.

To me this is to try and get fans on side. He has no experience in this roll. If he hadn’t played 200 games for us you’d all be shouting and screaming. Of course it is but that isn't a bad thing. Good interim appointment to help the club in the short term. I doubt he'll be making any long term decisions.

I am sure you are correct, and it WILL deliver thatimpact in the short term, while giving SJW some valuable experience if he aspires to do that role on a more permanent basis (somewhere). For me, it’s a positive, he gets our club unlike pretty much all the others and may well raise the atmosphere and feel even by a small amount that may be all we need. It also screams that Schuey is being backed. And thatJC has taken the decisive action that many on here were calling for - he deserves credit for that.

Really hope they have something more pragmatic in mind long term. Short term, could be a good way to bring people together I suppose. Another scouse Everton fan - can anyone confirm that him and SS knew each other already? I'd be very surprised if not Walters is from The Wirral* - technically not a Scouser in a lot of people's eyes**. * Calling it "The Wirral" seems to annoy alot of people from ...The Wirral. ** Mostly "proper" scousers.

I don't know what to make of this. Walter's has no experience of building a team. I would have preferred an ex manager who has had a little success to be honest but I am a bit more optimistic than yesterday. There's one thing you can say about Walters is he is the epitome of DNA. Better get Whelan in the club now too. The club has never been the same since either left.

Forgive my ignorance but what real influence will a ‘Technical Director’ have over what remains of this season ?

Right, now that it is done. For the love of god Coates, just make your own appointment in the vision of yourself and stop being swayed by others, including your manager. It really doesn't work.

Could well be a very good appointment. And if it goes well could be a permanent one. Why shouldn’t he be given a chance if this is what he’s been doing training for.

I assumed Martin would be sacked when Alex Neil was given the boot, surprised he stayed this long after.
At least the Walters appointment gets the fans back onside somewhat.

And if it works getting the fans onside is that such a bad thing? Don’t we all need to be pulling together at the minute rather than tearing one another apart?

Bringing in someone with limited experience to run a club on fire, oversee a manager who is very inexperienced and look after one of the worst Chairman in the league. It’s interim Anyone with the requisite amount of experience is already likely employed. Clearly big issues relating to Ricky that needed addressing. He has gone. The only way we get clear of the relegation zone is by sticking together. Walters will unite the fans for a start. 3 wins and a draw should see us right. Big issues relating to the club. He’ll be here for 4 months picking up a wage. If he’s not actually here to do anything, what’s the point? If fans get excited because a player who used to play for us is back at the club, then I don’t really know what to say to be honest. It didn’t work for Delap, Shawcross has done nothing, Walters was previously at the club. Football is the biggest positive discrimination racket around.

As long as this puts an end to the team selections being taken out of the managers hands, control the amount of negative speculation around the place and gives scfc a buzz then I'm all for it. Sjw is a stoke legend and will do everything to support this club, unlike the pillock who's just been fired. Hopefully SS will now have his control over who plays and how he plays and not try to moulded into a manger he isn't.
Plus they can both talk scouse to each other !!

Great move John Coates, full backing for the manager with SJW on the same page as SS as both scousers both support Everton probably both know each other already, gives a feel good atmosphere. May the troublesome players (will rephrase employees ie Mmaee, Campbell, Vidigal, Celtic bloke as they cannot be classed as players be warned your days are numbered)
Bring in Huth and Whelan in the summer
Well done John Coates

I swear this is absolutely true ...
I just told my missus that Ricky Martin has been replaced by Jon Walters and she said "'I remember him, he was that mixed raced forward you used to have, isn't he?"
Honestly! 😃

The same Gareth Owen Ricky Martin sacked and couldn't find a better replacement so asked him to stay? The daft cockney clown should have been booted out of Stoke on Trent when he pulled that stunt.

One down, King and Dublin next please. Get rid of these and go all out for a proper CEO and DOF. We have the money, so let’s go out and get the best. For now I will praise them for making the correct decision. They’ve had a lot of (justified) criticism recently so only right they get praise for the right move. 👏 Simon King has transformed our off-the-field antics from a commercial perspective and engagement with the fanbase. I'm not sure I'd be looking to get rid of him. Another shyster from the five pillars of bullshit and part of the toxic culture at the club that is clearly spilling on to the pitch. Just like Martin and Dublin. We are one of the richest clubs in the world so should be able to attract the best people into the best positions. Walters is ok in the interim but we can’t be blinded by his former links to the job. We need to go out and get the absolute best that’s willing to come. If that’s him then fine but does he have the relevant skills and knowledge for such an important post?
