It’s called ‘The Luckiest Man In Football’, catalogues his tough upbringing in a Paris ghetto, his unusual path from French 7th division (amateur) to English 4th division (professional) because Swansea manager John Hollins liked him. Then onto Gillingham then tricky internationals with Mali and onto Tony Pulis and Stoke City. He likes the friendliness of Stoke (but not the rain!) and I didn’t realise his career ended due to a series of nasty injuries. At the time of writing (2013) he says son Sol was ‘Stoke through and through’ - a decent read.

Loved Mama, one of my all time favourite players. Remember him holding back half a dozen ( at least) Middlesbrough defenders from a corner so Shawcroft could steal in and head home a winner. Knew at that moment we were staying up. Christmas present from the grandkids sorted 👍

It's on my 'to read' list.
Ricardo Fuller owes a fair whack of his legendary status here to Mama Sidibe.

He was a shit footballer, but you can't help but think of him in a fond way. He was part of the 2nd best era of being a Stoke fan in my lifetime

Genuinely think he was unfairly judged at the time because he wasn't a goalscorer. But he was never going to be, he was a defensive forward, designed to occupy defenders physically and he absolutely did that! If his finishing was better he'd have been at a top team. His hold up play was brilliant and if he was in this present team it would instantly be improved.

Shit, was probably the wrong word to use (I'd been drinking), as he was part of a Stoke team that not only got us promoted, but also helped us stay up and push on in the Premier League. I just remember a player who couldn't really trap a bag of cement and balls used to bounce off him, and his aimless flick ons were made good by the ridiculously good Ricardo Fuller. Perhaps I'm being harsh, but I didn't rate him at all at the time he played for us, so I'm not going to let nostalgia cloud my view of him

He was limited but he worked brilliantly in Pulis' system and in the Championship (and first season in the Prem) we generally looked a lot better with him than we did without him.

It's worth listening to Jon Parkin in Under the Cosh talking about the time Pulis asked him to play the Mama role. Hilarious. Mama is alo a lovely bloke who will stop and talk football with any Stokie he meets.

Had completely forgotten Seth Johnson played for them - just signed him on Champ 01/02. Sounds like Brammer, Duberry and the miserable Kevin Harper would bully some of the young lads, notably Paterson.

I knew a taxi driver, let's call him Ken as is his name who refused to pick him up, as did the company as a whole. Was known as a bit of a Mason Greenwood to her also
