The criticism of him can be summed up as the exact opposite of what you’ve just said. For as well as he’s done, there’s a nagging feeling that a generation of players who are genuine contenders for trophies is being wasted on him. Whatever happens in Germo it'll be his last tournament. So attention turns to a successor. So, who? I can see it being Cooper

I can't stand the bloke, weather it be his playing style or him as a person. Get him gone. Kevin Keegan was the fan's choice wasn't he? Look how that turned out. Did you not enjoy the WC 2018 in Russia? Or the last Euros? Football is about experiences and enjoyment more than it is trophies for me. After all, most Stoke fans have seen us win nothing of any note. Just can't stand the bloke mate.

This is the best England side in my lifetime, so we'd go into it as one of the favourites and I think we should be expecting to win it - whereas in previous tournaments that probably wasn't the case. I'd give it to Carsley personally, we need a natural succession plan with someone who has been involved with the U21s.

So if the rumours are true we are playing Henderson, a 34 year old playing in Saudi Arabia, who is also absolutely shit, and playing Maddison on the left when he has been one of the best players in the league this season in the middle. All this why Foden sits on the bench too.
Southgate is a clown.

I think Southgate has done great things but for this group not to win a major tournament will be very disappointing.

All the 'this is the best group of England players ever!!!!' chat ignores the fact that, aside from spells of John Stones's career, Southgate has never had access to central defenders of the quality of Terry, Ferdinand, Campbell or Adams (I won't speak for players before my time), and his best goalkeeping option has been Jordan Pickford (who has admittedly always played very well for England).

The era of beckham, Scholes, Ferdinand, Terry, Gerrard, Lampard, Cole underachieved imo. They were up against an unbelievable Spain, Germany and Brazil though too.

Yes they absolutely did underachieve. Also I'd contest that characterisation of the competition. Brazil were amazing in 2002. Spain and Germany were pretty mediocre until the end of the decade. Between 2002 and 2008 there weren't many better sides than England on paper. After Brazil knocked us out of the 2002 WC they beat Turkey and a quite good German team to win it. Greece beat Portugal in the 2004 Euros final. A pretty mediocre (by top class international standards) Italy team won the 2006 World Cup against an ageing France.

We’ve got Rice and Bellingham who are more than capable of controlling a midfield with Foden or Maddison in front of them, but we are wasting it to shoehorn Henderson in.

Yep there is that to be fair but one of those underrated players for me who went under the radar a bit because of the position he plays. Exactly the kind of player we need ...Stoke I mean .

Don't mind that, very hot day so ball retention will be key. Run them around a lot and then bring on the likes of Foden and Rashford later on in the game.

On the subject of the successor, there really isn't anyone obvious now, just by virtue of how the job is seen. But I think the Pep talk is just crazy enough to happen. www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-12479967/Gareth-Southgate-England-boss-walk-Euros-FA-Pep-Guardiola.htmlGuillem Balague certainly seems to think Guardiola would be very receptive to an offer when his contract expires in 2025, and sees his next job as an international manager, and he'd be more than open for it to be England. The problem would be what they'd do between Southgate's departure after the Euros, and then. m.skybet.com/football/manager-specials/event/29731199Graham Potter 7/1 Eddie Howe 8/1 Lee Carsley 8/1 Pep Guardiola 10/1 Sarina Wiegman 10/1 Steve Cooper 11/1 Steven Gerrard 11/1 Mauricio Pochettino 12/1 Thomas Tuchel 14/1 Brendan Rodgers 16/1 Wayne Rooney 16/1 Frank Lampard 20/1 Michael Carrick 20/1 Steve Holland 22/1 Jose Mourinho 25/1 Thomas Frank 25/1 Arsene Wenger 28/1 Chris Powell 33/1 Chris Wilder 33/1 Scott Parker 33/1 Will Still 33/1 Carlo Ancelotti 40/1 David Beckham 40/1 John Herdman 40/1 Michael Beale 40/1 Mikel Arteta 40/1 Rob Edwards 40/1 Sean Dyche 40/1 Carlos Corberan 50/1 Gary O'Neil 50/1 Julien Lopetegui 50/1 Ryan Mason 50/1 Darren Moore 66/1 Dean Smith 66/1 Emma Hayes 66/1 Gary Neville 80/1 Paul Warne 80/1 Phil Neville 80/1 Alan Shearer 100/1 Jody Morris 100/1 Liam Rosenior 100/1
