Sniff some glue and play 4 2 2 2.
Hoever McNally Rose Wilmot
Pearson Burger
Bae Vidigal
Campbell Mmaee
Hoever steps into midfield like all that trendy stuff they do now. Liquid football, HMS piss the league.

Hoever is not in any best formation if its at right back based on the fact he can't defend.

The people saying 5 at the back are genuinely nuts. You need what the Germans called a sweeper and the Italians a libero . Someone who is going to collect a five yard pass from Wilmott or McNally and then carry the ball 20 , 30 yards up the pitch before passing it . There is no way we have that player .

Wilmott himself I think could do that job, when he arrived I might be wrong but I thought it was suggested he could do a defensive mid role if required. Assuming we signed another central defender the door us open for him to have a go at it when/if the manager deems necessary. He does like to get up the pitch on occasions

To me it’s 4-1-2-3 Travers Hoever McNally Wilmot Stevens Burger Johnson Bae Campbell Mmaee Vidigal Or slight variations on personnel Leaving out Pearson is brave, when he is the DM that we have craved for several years. Think for me the 4-2-3-1 offers a balanced double-pivot of a snarly terrier in Pearson with Burger as a deeper playmaker who can also drive into the final third when given space. I'm inclined to put Léris on the right wing, but willing to wait and see how Campbell does there if Neil next selects him in that position again. Campbell is an obvious pick he’ll score goals at this level anyone picked ahead of him needs to prove they can replace the goals not just provide the work rate.

I think Neil will play 352 against certain teams but with only 3CBs it can't be plan A that will be some variation on 433.
Having not seen that much of some players and nothing of others it's a hard call but based on what I've seen and in particular the last match I'd go:
Travers Gooch Wilmott Rose Stevens Johnson Burger Bae Leris Mmaee Vidigal
Not getting the love in for Campbell - he was really poor last time out and hasn't been any where near consistent enough to justify a place in the starting 11. It's like people are picking a theoretical Campbell rather than the one that's actually been turning up for matches.

4-2-3-1
Travers
Gooch (We've got good comp for the place and he played well enough to be given another go for now) Rose McNally Stevens
Pearson Burger
(Let them fight it out) Bae Vidigal
Mmaee
4-3-3 being the back up option with injuries etc.

The latest excuse for Campbell seems to be that he is ineffective on the left, but sparks into life on the right. I don't see why a player should be better on one wing than the other. Whether you're left or right footed, you still have to shoot at the same goal.

The manager acknowledged in his first game fit he would take a few games. Not with a certain section of Stoke fans they'd rather play players with no history of scoring at this level and in certain cases any other level but look how hard they try.

433 with two sitting and one in front when out of possession, then one sitting and two in front when we have the ball. Five at the back has had its day with us and not worked simple as

personally i think the style of football played is more important than the formation, 532 can be very attacking when played right but Neil just shits himself when plays it and goes defensive

I wonder what system Norwich play and what are their attacking strengths and defensive weaknesses?
I’m sure this is how our manager starts planning for away games? It’s easy to say let’s just go 433 and take it to them but I believe there is a bit more to it?

AN doesn’t/hasn’t really employ an AM but agree the only real difference is you’re playing a 2:1 pivot in CM not a 1:2 pivot. I’d certainly rather see a dedicated AM and hope Bae can fill that role but it would be a break from what we’ve seen from AN so far using Smallbone Johnson and occasionally Laurent as the most advanced midfielder non of whom are imo AM’s.

I noticed last night, France play 4 2 3 1 and it seems to work fine for them .
Mark Hughes, loved it with Whelan and nzonzi looking like an obvious anchor of 2 and Arnie Shaq and AN other looking like talented boys who want to run off the centre forward, rather than actually lead the line.
It doesn't take a huge stretch of the imagination to imagine Wouter and Pearson in the Whelan/ nzonzi role and vidigal and Hakšabanović in the Shaq / Arnie role.
I think it might get the best out of some of our key players...Wouter , Pearson, vidigal, Hakšabanović, Wes ?
But unfortunately I have visions of AN dreaming up another concoction of 5 at the back .
Hope I am wrong.
Vidigal and junho look like Shaq types . Hakšabanović looks an Arnie type.
Why not try it ?

Thinking he will switch between 433 and 4231. 4231 has the added protection of 2 midfielders who break up the play allowing the front 4 to attack, In a 433 there is no specific defensive/attacking midfielder, they all do the same job. e.g Junho would suit a 4231 as a number 10 with Pearson/Burger protecting, where in a 433 it is more suited to Laurent/Pearson/Burger/DJ

What's the difference between a 4-2-3-1 and a 4-3-3 double-pivot? With the latter, are the wingers more advanced so the CAM has to take on a more dynamic, box-to-box role to support the wingers whilst also tracking back to cover the space in front of the deeper midfielders?

No I think one has a CAM a No10 or whatever you want to call them and the other simply doesn’t have that role. There’s no way I’d describe Smallbone, Johnson or Laurent as such a player. It’s like the difference between having a 4 & two 8’s or two 4’s & a 10. That’s in older use of the numbers I know they use 6 now for a CM but that’s a CB to me 5&6.
