I would suggest Jones and MON certainky werent cautious conservative dour appointments. One failed miserably, the other was inititally successful Yes and both had character. The only thing you could ever like about Alex Neil though is if he won games for our football club. He has no slack because in more than a season in charge the football is as dull and ineffective as it’s ever been despite us signing what appear to be genuinely talented footballers. It’s true though that he/we have suffered bad luck in the last two games with a bent ref against QPR and then a last second goal at Argyle when we were worth the draw. BM You can’t blame a bent ref on shipping 3 late goals like we did against QPR, a total inexcusable capitulation. Also conceding late to Plymouth , we are spineless and the manager is to blame Game by game They are wasting our season with this fraud in charge

I’m reasonably confident that given the rest of the season to work on this Neil and his team will make significant progress. The constant desperation to get rid of managers is frankly tiresome and (as we have demonstrated) non productive. Not a view that’s going to win many friends I know but I think people have to recognise that the difference between success and failure in this league is paper thin. One thing that has been massively missing this season and a few previously is the merest hint of good fortune. Things could turn very quickly if and when a few things start dropping our way. Spot on. I’m far from happy with few end results but I don’t want to see a new manager yet, especially after the overhaul this summer. Pick up a few wins and the mood on here will quickly change. AN is proven at this level and we have done decent business this summer, we are still lacking a few key players, hopefully we can sign Travers in January.

I really think Bonham is the least of our problems.

You say he's proven at this level but all he has proven is that he's a middle of the road manager. He averages a win % of less than 35%. One promotion from this league with a ready made squad does not count for much. Take that promotion off his CV and his record is worse than Rowett's.

He's higher than 35% at Preston but lower than that here. One quite stark stat is that he needs to win 8 games without a defeat to just get to the point where he's won as many games here as he's lost. Let that one sink in!

He’s definitely a don’t lose merchant who spends far too much of his time and energy trying to neutralise the opponent yet the overwhelming end result is exactly what he puts the vast majority of his effort into avoiding. Oh for a manager who puts his main focus on getting his team scoring and within that does his best to try to keep the back door shut.

I said give him till December to get a new squad performing. Performances aren't getting better, they are getting worse. So I said last week before Saturday it's time to replace so a new manager can get a good look at the squad and decide what he needs to sign in January. But when I saw this today I totally despair. Any manager having to resort to relying on luck has lost the plot. www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-manager-alex-neil-8952914

At one time I found it admirable that the owners perservered with managers and gave them the chance to prove themslves rather than a gung ho approach. Nowadays I find it just wank management of the club, when will they learn? We all know where this is heading, we all know the dressing room is lost, we all know he will, eventually, be sacked. We are an absolute shambles.

Well we haven’t gone foreign apart from that have we? BM Gudjon Thordarson (or more correctly Guðjón Þórðarson)? He even took us up, and was sacked a few days later, proving that Coates wasn't the only looney owner in the club history.

In football you make your own luck. First of all, we had an opportunity not to give the (late) free-kick away and then we had an opportunity to clear the free-kick but we don’t make clean contact (before Plymouth score their winner). What happens after that comes back to those two actions.”

He's been the best we've had since relegation by far, and wasn't a unlikeable twonk.

No, taking it on the chin is resigning your position, refusing a pay-off and leaving the club at a date agreed with the owners.

And he got Hamilton Academicals promoted. More pertinently he took over a lower mid table championship team and made them worse.

Make it enjoyable to watch and play. Stop worrying about promotion, stop worrying about the opposition this is the championship non of them are really that good, learn to play decent football first. Teams playing decent football are far more likely to be successful than teams playing the timid football you rightly describe.
