Playing devils advocate if he hasn’t spent a lot of time around said races would his question not be valid one ? No need to play devil's advocate. I've told the bloke what he should do if he seriously believes in the crap he's spouted a few posts back. Let's see if he's as vocal taking me up on it. Lets just say I won't be losing much sleep over the law turning up at my door nor a summons to civil court.

They know full well it's neither racist or derogatory in any way. They just think they can forbid certain topics of conversation. I'm astonished by what some people get offended by . I guess they have to have their daily quota of being offended on other people's behalf . What a way to live . Can someone please explain to me why the original question was racist? He asked how someone knew a particular group in London were Korean. People may notice that I am quite vociferous in my condemnation of anything which is discriminatory and I just don't get why the question was racist. It wasn't necessary and wasn't football related but that's the worst he can be accused of in my opinion. I agree he seems to argue a lot with posters views but is not offensive. If you saw a group of people together and someone referred to them as being Norwegian would you not be entitled to ask how they knew that they were from Norway not Sweden, Finland or Denmark?

To be honest I read the question as *challenging* racial stereotypes - as in, you can't make assumptions about a person's nationality just by looking at them. Seemed reasonable. But there's apparently some context here I'm (blissfully) unaware of

It was a curious reply to a bloke who said he sees loads of Korean's on the train. I simply wanted to know how he could tell. There was no need for him to get involved with his abuse. problem is some on here think they're the message board police and can control who posts and what they post. I do appreciate your post that I'm not offensive. They attack me and squeal when they get put back in their box.

Largest community around Surbiton/New Malden in SW London not in Liverpool. Korean students always on my train home to London after games, have clearly been to watch their boy How the fuck do you tell if someone is Korean without asking them? You listen to them talk and when they are talking Korean you can be reasonably sure. Good friend of mine’s wife is from Korea so not that hard.

Good friend of mine’s wife is from Korea so not that hard. I appreciate that if you speak Korean it is easy to identify a Korean just as you can a French or German. However I know what a Nordic language sounds like but I wouldn't be able to identify a Swede from a Norwegian, just as I can't tell the difference between a Korean and for example a Chinese just by hearing a group talking together.

Thank the lord. I actually googled this and apparently there are some slight differences but your average joe who has little contact with Japanese Chinese and Koreans would have no chance. I asked myself would a Korean in the UK failing to know whether I was English or Scottish or Welsh be considered racist. And of course the answer I came up with was a resounding NO.. 👍

Same with Germans and Dutch to me I think they sound the same. I don't know many of the words so I can't tell the difference. I started trying to learn Spanish as I spend quite a bit of time there, fine on the computer or app until someone Spanish comes on and starts talking it then I might as well not have bothered wasting my time. I am hard of hearing though.

Yes, I remember going on holiday when I was a child to Germany with my father who was a modern languages teacher and pride himself particularly in his German. Driving back we got lost and he saw some people working in the fields and stopped to ask where we were. His initial salutation led him to believe he was speaking to Germans not French so proceeded to ask them in German and got an answer he couldn't understand a bit of which led him to believe we were in the Netherlands!

Well that escalated! I think part of this boils down to interpretation and what people interpret as being an honest question or veiled racism.
For me, having read the thread it isn’t known which it is, but it could easy be interpreted either way.

For me, having read the thread it isn’t known which it is, but it could easy be interpreted either way. There is a huge difference between racism and discussing race, heritage and distinguishing features. If I saw a man on the train in a green check skirt with a dead badger pinned to the front, ginger hair and a ginger beard I'd have a good bet on him being Scottish or Irish. Doesn't mean I've got anything against him whatsoever.

Context. Context. Context. He knew exactly what he was doing. A variation on the old ‘they all look the same’ adage. This all coming on the back of him championing Joey Barton. I’m beginning to wonder is Baconballs from Yorkshire. I’m just waiting for him to post “I say what I like and I like what i bloody well say”. Either that or he’s Jim Davidson.

Surprised you aren’t still at the cop shop with your aggressive little friend.

Doesn’t mean all Scotsmen and Irishmen look like that or that he might not be either but those are the visual clues that would lead me. There’s no harm in it whatsoever.

The valuations here a well off. I don't think people are taking into consideration his growing popularity in SK, and the merchandise revenue that'll bring.
He's an extremely valuable asset.

My Korean colleagues know the Premier League but don't seem bothered about the Dutch league. In a year I'd expect prem teams to be willing to pay more because they could commercialise him in a way that Feyenoord couldn't. In dream land he carries us to promotion himself of course.
