It looked a fucking awful goal to concede. Need to see it again though before I slag them off 🤣

Have they never defended a corner before? Looked very much in the keepers sphere of influence too. No idea who did what though.

We can concede from a corner every game, if we score 4 in return.

It's true, we have a problem defending corners.
But TBF this came off the Rotherham player random, as if he headed off his head into his chest and then it bounced off his knee or something.
We messed up because we didn't but a challenge in on the Rotherham player ...bad ... well hopeless really!
You have to put a challenge in,but I think the Rotherham player was so excited to get a free header 6 yards out, he powered a header into his own body and Travers couldn't work out where the ball was going.
Terrible defending, giving people free headers from 6 yards out , but I think Travers would have preferred the lad to head it cleanly, so he could have prepared his footing and dived for it .

I don’t think it was training ground stuff from Rotherham - it looked to hit one of their players square in the face!

They’re professional defenders. Today should have been one and that goal was so sloppy. Nevermind.

So set piece defending is massively down to organisation, players knowing exactly what their team mates are going to do That takes time We will concede more sloppy goals for a while yet

From the view at the game I think I wanted the keeper to deal with it. But that could be harsh.

I said after the Everton game that corners would be our Achilles this season and nothing will change until we get some height and command into that back line.
I like our shape on and off the ball, and like the high press but it won't take teams too long to suss us out on Set Pieces.
Thankfully we now have the brains in and around the club to spot that so you'd guess they already know and are working on it.

McNally was sat on the bench mate who for me will be very commanding when he plays but until then we’ll definitely struggle defending set plays

Haven't got a clue as in open play Wilmot and Rose were fine.

Totally agree and it’ll be interesting to see how he fits him in🤔I can imagine in certain games especially away he’d go to a back 3 to accommodate all three

The bottom line for defenders is...you put a challenge in ( the bare minimum)
If you are a smart arse ,you jump first and are falling back into their player if you don't win the ball and clear it.
If you don't win the ball and concede you can at least say then ...TBF , their lad held off my challenge and I was actually falling back in to him with all my body weight ( deliberately ) when he scored, so not a bad finish from their point of view .
Obviously, we failed to do the bare minimum, so not a great day for defending corners.

If you were playing us last season, would you bother with a commanding CB to boss high balls? No point.

Tbf it was a delicious corner and we were caught on our heels. No fault of the keeper just one of those caught cold scrappy ones that vastly inferior teams sometimes get. I’ve absolutely no idea why this thread has been shit binned?🤷🏻♂️
