some interesting results at the weekend, Aldershot going 3-0 up in 10 minutes at Swindon, then 7-0 up in an hour must be the highlight of the round, I'm not sure what sort of team Swindon put out
2nd round draw, TV fixtures yet to be decided as quite a few replays next week, no all non league ties which is a shame, always like to see a non league team in the 3rd round, hopefully an upset somewhere along the way.
Saturday 2 December 2023 Second Round Proper Kick Off No. Home Away Live on 15:00 1 Maidstone United VS Barrow AFC 15:00 2 Wycombe Wanderers VS Morecambe 15:00 3 Notts County VS Shrewsbury Town 15:00 4 Chesterfield VS Leyton Orient 15:00 5 Aldershot Town VS Stockport County 15:00 6 Alfreton Town VS Walsall 15:00 7 Blackpool VS Scarboro A / Forest Green 15:00 8 Cambridge United VS Fleetwood Town 15:00 9 Bolton Wanderers VS Harrogate Town 15:00 10 Wrexham AFC VS Yeovil Town 15:00 11 Crewe Alex / Derby Co VS Bristol Rovers 5:00 12 Peterborough / Salford C VS Doncaster R / Accrington 15:00 13 Eastleigh VS Reading 15:00 14 Gillingham VS Charlton / Cray Valley (PM) 15:00 15 Stevenage VS Port Vale / Burton Alb 15:00 16 Newport County AFC VS Barnet 15:00 17 Oxford United VS Slough Town / Grimsby T 15:00 18 Chester / York City VS Wigan Athletic 15:00 19 Sutton United VS Barnsley / Horsham 15:00 20 AFC Wimbledon VS Ramsgate

Its always a bit disappointing to me how very few non-league teams end up in the 3rd Round. This time it could be zero.
It's a huge effort for a low league team to even make it to the 1st Round sometimes winning 5/6 games just to get there. I feel there should be a bit more scope for them to get through and bring some romance back to the competition.

One for marylandstoke (Vics fan I think) Frank Corrigan who scored the winner for Vics v Watford in the 3rd round January 1977 has passed away. Watford see it as their equivalent of our Blyth Spartans moment, Vics were Northern Premier league at the time.

Trivia corner: Elton John was at this game and travelled back with Watford fans on the train because he wanted to apologise to them personally (as newly appointed Chairman) for the poor performance.

We did give them a reasonable game last season, but that was during our sole good month.

That's probably a good draw for us. A 2-4 goal defeat against a Premier League team, so not too embarrassing. A big PL team would have slaughtered us and a lower league team would have embarrassed us.
