Looking forward to this as usual. Will be on the course by 8am on Thursday.
Best individual sporting event of the English summer for me - Silverstone and Wimbledon not even close ,
Who is everybody backing ?
After last years near miss for Rory I hope he can do it. But he's too short in the betting for me. A home winner looks very possible, Fleetwood, Lowry and Hatton all playing well, Fitz and Rose likely to surge in this as well.

In all seriousness, who knows? There's someone you won't expect who does well and someone who fails miserably. McIlroy top 5 but don't think he'll win it.
1) Scheffler 2) Lowry 3) Young 4) Cantlay 5) McIlroy 6) Kim 7) Rahm 8) Matsuyama 9) Homa 10) Fowler

The new 17th Hole looks amazing. And an absolute brute. The jury is out - I've a few mates who are members who don't like it. I've had one go at it and it didn't go well

I've gone for Hovland on the nose at 16/1, and Rose (50/1) and Oosthuizen (100/1) as each way bets.......

The new 17th Hole looks amazing. And an absolute brute. Played that hole twice and made the green both times, that was off the yellows though, still 3 putted. it was a great hole when it was the other way round. Now it`s a brute for the pro`s off the whites. The tee is much lower than the green and you are facing the sea. you cant feel any wind, so if you are short or long, big trouble as the green is so small. Can`t wait to watch it all unfold.

Watched a video of Harrington playing it, on YouTube, really good watch.

I went to Hoylake yesterday to have a walk round the course and watch some of the practice rounds. Towards the end of the day I sat in the stand behind the 17th and watched a few shots, but because it was against the sea and into the sun and probably my eyesight isn’t what it was, I couldn’t follow the ball in flight at all! Anyway it was a great day out, especially in the afternoon when the weather was nice and sunny. It’s only 40 minutes drive from where I live. Going again Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.

What strikes you is just how far they smash it off the tee, the telly doesn't do it justice at all. I went to Troon a few years ago and stood about 350 yards up the fairway, they were all getting that far, then up steps John Daly and he was easily 50 yards further past - phenomenal stuff.

I've got tickets for Sunday and can't wait to attend ive never seen a professional golf tournament before. I went a few years ago to my first one when it was somewhere near Southport, corporate tent, early start with bacon butties and champagne etc for breakfast, I left at lunchtime, it was mind numbingly boring for me.

If you love golf then fair enough and each to their own, obviously, but I'm in agreement, Northy. It's dull as ditchwater on tv and that's with cutting to each and every hole whenever there's something happening. The Ryder Cup is good, but individual golf...zzzzzzz.

Philistine My first ever golf day a few years ago was a corporate event, I've still got the 'nearest the pin trophy' that certainly pissed off the golfing regulars 😁 I'd practiced at the driving range at Birchwood for a bit before.

Would love it to be either Fowler or Rory for a number of factors.
Fowler has gone through a major rebuilding job and has been looking great for about a year now. He didn’t quite do it in the US Open but then came through and showed true guts in the Rocket mortgage classic. He’s also great for the sport and a true sportsman.
Rory could do it off the back of that incredible finish on Sunday. The guy gets a lot of haters from the US but is a true pro and is as loyal as a fox when it came to the LIV / PGA debate.
Hoping these 2 rip it up out there!

Quite like the look of Viktor Hovland
Ranked 5 in the world. Finished 12th and 5th in the last 2 (his only 2) Opens.
Went to a Q&A session he did at Hoylake yesterday and he seemed like a relaxed and confident guy.

I've decided my main two are Fleetwood and Rose, Rose tends to start well so I'm big on him from the off, Fleetwood is the opposite so I plan to go bigger on him on Friday if he has a moderate first round.
A good chance of a british winner this year. Fingers crossed.
