How many did Everton bring during Holocaust season? They won the title that year I think and can remember they were all over the ground. Liverpool win the title in our holocaust season and Everton finished 7th. They were getting on a roll though, won the title the following season. We played them twice in our holocaust season and they swamped the Vic both times. By the way the gate for the league game on 14 Jan was only 7,935!!! 16,462 for the FA Cup game Funny looking back, felt like we were under siege, for both games. Everton won the title but couldn't play in European Cup because of Heysal

Trevor's debut was a big deal. Remember though we'd won our first two games impressively which boosted the crowd.
Class player Francis was.

Everton won the FA cup , Liverpool won the league , the League Cup and the European Cup FA cup was the full turnout for Everton ..the game that saved Kendall his job .in.the league game they brought just a fraction .. 84/5 ( Holocaust ) Everton won the the league and the Cup Winners cup , lost in the Final of the FA cup .. league game was large Everton turnout at Stoke Liverpool 2nd in the league , runners up in EC 85/6 English teams banned from Europe

Even in the worst of times there is always that little sub-conscious voice that won't accept the inevitable until it is finally confirmed.

I have recollections of him playing for Forest at ours in a midweek Cup game, early/mid 80s. Absolutely rinsed our right back. I did not enjoy the game or his part in it.

The crowd for Francis' debut was 25,256 which was bar far our biggest gate of the season. We only broke 20,000 once more that season against Spurs.
Man Utd was 19,662 and there were less than 17,000 for the game against Liverpool.

I think the FA Cup game the season before was a prelude for what was to come, they had loads of fans for the cup game.

The League games attendance was the lowest for 20 years so was a precedence for the season after too.

He hailed from Plymouth and local legend has it that he was recognised as a real talent by Plymouth Argyle. So the then chairman of the club, Robert Daniel, knocked on the door of the Francis household in order to offer him a schoolboy contract. Francis snr told him he was too late as his son had been signed up by the might Birmingham City and there was no way he would have agreed to sign for argyle. As it happens his tenure at Birmingham was his most prolific in terms of games and goals. As has already been stated, injuries played a big part of his later career after he left Birmingham. He became the 1st British £1m player when he was sold to Nottingham Forrest.

The extra tenner was paid in cash by Peter Taylor out of his own wallet.

Jimmy Greenhoff volley aside, were Stoke equally as rubbish at that ground in the 70’s and early 80’s?

No whoosh! 🙂 For whatever reason, for years, it has been in the subconscious mind that TF appeared in a Tunes advert. Maybe it was a comedy sketch… Maybe I imagined it?
