Pericard in his peak, would struggle to get in to our present squad.

Which to be fair he could, as his World Cup winner’s medal rather suggests. Not that line again. Some players that get a medal hardly play. He came on as a second half sub. Does the same apply to Vincent pericard who once played for Juventus? No. It doesn't. But you knew that.

Wasn't N'Zonzi the lad with the pushy family agents, who convinced him he could "do better"? I had no idea he was was related to Arnie.

The only midfielder we've had in about 15 years who can dictate the tempo of it!
He was an outstanding player.

Not that line again. Some players that get a medal hardly play. He came on as a second half sub. Does the same apply to Vincent pericard who once played for Juventus? He changed that game. Are you really comparing him to Pericard? It’s a silly comparison really. Nzonzi played 20 games for France national team as well as is other medals. Pericard never started a game for Juventus. Nzonzi was a top player and that ship sailed sometime ago.

Successful re-signings would include Alan Hudson, who at 32 inspired us on an incredible run of 33 points from 17 games, to avoid relegation on the last day of the season. And also Mickey Thomas at 35, who went on to win our Player of the Season award the next year. After the Thomas signing announcement, I can still remember my family debating before the next kickoff, who we had actually signed. It seemed impossible it could be the same Mickey Thomas as before, who seemed to belong to a completely different era, and surely would have retired years ago. Some people offered that we might have signed Michael Thomas, the Arsenal player, whereas others thought it must be a different player altogether, who just happened to have the same name as the famous players. Our confusion wasn't helped when a little bald bloke then ran out of the tunnel, who looked like no one we'd ever seen before. When the game kicked off though, and we saw him buzzing about like a busy little bee, we knew it was good old Mickey T! Could have sworn Micky still had long hair when he re- signed 🤔

What you have to remember is that Sportsman’s dislike for Nzonzi goes back years on this messageboard. Totally bizarre but quite amusing at the time. Particularly in light of what he’s gone on to achieve.

Ok cool;
I'm guessing it was a huge fuzzball haircut then?!?
(I have a memory of it being completely different to his first spell with us, and this causing confusion as to whether it was him or not.)

He's probably prefer to retire than have to play in the Championship. He doesn't strike me as the type who'd be up for anything like that once his career has peaked and he's on the long downslope. He's in the making lots of money in the sun stage of semi-retirement You'd think Begovic would move into that kind of area like MLS too, but you never know. Bego has a real affection for Stoke though, found it tough to leave etc. I think he’d consider a return if the circumstances were right. Not sure there’s quite the same bond for Steven 🙂

If we are looking at ex good/ great players, then they have to be recent & still playing at a good level, with a couple of years still left in the tank.
Can't think of any who would want to return, unless they get better wages than where they are now.

I can’t imagine he’d want to play in the Champo, especially for a bottom half team. We would not be one at the start of a new season all teams would be equal!

Well done: I couldn't find an image anywhere of his second spell. And his hair isn't massively different from his first spell; Attachment Deleted...it was perhaps a bit more wild and straggly in his mid-30s, but still better than mine was at that age!

Wasn't N'Zonzi the lad with the pushy family agents, who convinced him he could "do better"? He was far too good for us. If he was my family member and taking the bias out of it, I’d be saying what the hell are you doing at Stoke. He’d of been perfect for Arsenal if he went to there from us. I think it was the 1:0 defeat away to Arsenal when he was the best player on the park. I've no idea what Wenger didn't see that day as you say he would have improved Arsenal.

He came back with a bald head a few years later for a celebrity match - either the game before the Autoglass final, or the last match at the Victoria Ground. Maybe both? But that was the time when nobody recognised him.

Was a rolls Royce of a midfielder and people didn't relise how good he was until he left.
Apparently took less money to sign for the Spainish side than what we offered him.

Market opportunity. The 34-year-old midfielder Steven Nzonzi becomes a free agent after completing his contract with Qatar's Al Rayyan 👉🏻He has experience in #LaLiga after his time at the sevillafc. He also played, among others, in AS Roma, Rennes, Galatasaray and Stoke 'Come an get me' plea if ever I saw one
