Did we miss a trick? - is there another thread about him? Have I had a drink and can't understand why, yet again, another player gets injured/under performs for Stoke City yet seems to gel elsewhere?

Came on against Fulham I seem to remember, and was played right wing back, and considering didn’t do too bad

Don't think he ever was fully fit when playing for us. Was supposed to be very pacy, but didn't look like that when playing for us. Seems much quicker now by the way when he is up to full speed!

I like him he's very direct, it was a ridiculous decision to let him go.

I like him he's very direct, it was a ridiculous decision to let him go. With his injury and form at the time I thought it was the right decision. In hindsight you can say it was wrong, but when we let him go I was glad we didn't lose much money on him.

If anyone wants to boost their football career, leave Stoke.
Who knows what it'll bring?
PSG? Sevilla? Valencia? Premier League?

I remember at the time that there was some hushed up scandle involving a 16 year old girl. A lot of Charlton fans were raging that we even gave him a way out.

We wanted to play 352 but never wanted to sub Tymon.
We never wanted to play a formation that featured both of them (because why wouldn’t you want two fast, direct players on one flank?!).
We kind of missed the trick, in so much as we bought tickets to the show but decided to do something else that day instead.

I’m sure had he stayed he would’ve been a steaming pile of shite just like any other player who has the misfortune to play for us in recent times. I’m convinced we are cursed.

He was a crock when he was here, didn't look great when he played, I remember watching him start and play 90 minutes against Doncaster in the cup and he wasn't very good. He may well have improved but it happens. Gouranga.

Swear he was signed off the back of a bad acl injury and it took him a long time to get fit and any time he did have a run of games he'd pick up a niggle. That combined with tymons good form made it difficult for him to solidify a position in the team.

Very quick. Very direct. Looked better as a second half sub than as a starter (because he had fitness issues). He was returning from long term injury when we brought him in. He seemed to be a part of a long term plan, that we quickly lost patience with. We signed a player who we knew would need time to get fully fit and then sold him because he wasn’t fully fit.

There are lots of posts above saying he was no good for us, but I don't really remember him ever getting more than a couple of cameos?
I suppose that the biggest issue was that he came to us as a winger at a time we were playing 4-3-3, but when his injury cleared up we had switched to a back three. Funny that he's ended up as a wing back at Luton.

I think it was a bad hamstring tear not an ACL because I remember discussion at the time of it being a bad injury for an explosive pacy player.

Yes the strange thing was we paid a fee for him in January knowing that it would be at least two months before he could play and that his contract was up in the summer when he would be free. The argument was that we were signing him to make sure we got him as a lot of clubs wanted him as a free. MON talked him up as well worth it to make sure we got him but then didn't give him a chance. Another indication like Etebo that whatever is said the manager doesn't always have the final say on transfers. I suspect one good thing about Neil is that he won't stand for that sort of nonsense.

Think Etebo and maybe Shea are the only ones since Triggy and Ziggy about whom that can be said. MON will have signed off on Doughty. He just likely wasn’t impressed once he’d actually rocked up.

I'm sure that he signed it off. I'm sure that is what they mean by the manager having the final say. I just get the impression that some players are signed off because the manager is told the club have organised it and think he'll be good but that the players are not always ones the manager himself would choose and who when they turn up the manager has no idea how to use them. I think Powell fell into that category because he was never a Nathan Jones type player. I think managers in the past have just said OK, whatever and signed players off because you're not going to turn down what looks like a coup. In this regard I think Neil will be an improvement - he knows exactly what he wants and speaks his mind.
