I’d be disappointed with that but it’s possibly true. I’d rather try and bring in a defensive partner that compliments him though. He’s only 23! He has plenty of room to grow. Someone else said they would compliment each other so who knows? In a high line they'll be fine, but we will be more exposed if we have a low block or a team who put lots of crosses in. If we play the majority of the time as we did in our purple patch he looks pretty much the best we can get where theres also room to add future transfer value.

If signing him gets Tessa down the Brit I'll chip in a couple of quid myself.
Absolutely loved her growing up.

All makes sense Whether we sign him or not would still expect another CB (& really 2) Cresswell type, good in the air, threat in both boxes

So! 4 pages in on a player we might/ might not, be hoping to sign. What's the target to beat the Zigic thread? Maybe even Yarmolenko thread?

That’s true but how many teams have first choice centre backs sitting on the bench? If you look at the better teams, they have their first choice pair/trio and don’t rotate that often. Given how many players we have to bring in, do you spend good money on players who don’t already compliment the players you have in the squad? Wouldn’t it be wiser to look for cheaper options to fill those roles? would venture that Wilmot would be on the bench We need to remember wilmot might not even be fit for the start of preseason. Back issues have a nasty habit of flaring up again and again too. Sanderson, wilmot, + 2 more with Taylor on loan is ideal for me. Axel (if we get him fit) and a more experienced head, saw some talk of Evans which wouldn’t be awful.

Agree with all of that apart from the last paragraph.. with the risk of wilmot having a reoccurrence of his back injury as we saw time and again with shawcross I think taking both axel with his history and an aging Evans is to much of a risk.. could easily end up with 3 centre backs all on the treatment table at the same time.

Yeah I agree but we are going to have to take some calculated gambles. I fully expect Axel to show up anywhere but here, so if you replace him with a creswell/Davies then evens is less of a punt. Ditto if we get Davies, Axel is less of a punt.

Going to Brum, so we can forget him Disappointing, assuming we were in for him. Brum are getting a very good team together. Definitely worth a bet for the playoffs.
