Eek...not that I've noticed how Stoke shirts are made before, but this is greenwashing. Polyester in whatever form still results in a load of microplastics getting into the waterstream. They're too small to get filtered so end up inside all the freshwater and sea creatures, and probably us eventually. The difference to traditional fabrics is that polyester doesn't decay.

Patagonia were highlighting this about 10 years ago.

There are ways of preventing the microplastics from getting into the waterstream, like washing less and using a lint trapper in the washing machine.

I don't think polyester made from recycled plastic can be recycled again either.

I wonder if any football clubs use environmentally friendly materials.

Cheers - found they've trialled bamboo and kits made from waste coffee grounds (though still 50% plastic), so hopefully they're heading in the right direction.

It all adds up and makes a difference. From a marketing perspective, it could be a feel-good thing too given the past few years (I'm only cautiously optimistic for this season).

An even more fair point. Pity though with all the shirt tugging and modern sportswear a cotton football is a thing of the past.

Yeah best thing about cotton, unlike these synthetic fabrics, is it doesn't stink to high heaven after being worn for more than 2 hours.

As with many'eco' things, presented as wholesome for an ESG score and marketing, whereas the reality is much different. Electric cars, windfarms, etc

i own a complete set (home and away) of shirts from Ryan's tenure with the club. haven't bought one since, though the black did tempt me this year. this new kit looks rubbish though. hopefully not a sign of what's to come this season.

I currently wear two* Fred Perry shirts. One black with pink trim, and one pink with black and red trim. They're like my going out smart home and away shirts.




*the pale grey and black ones have seen better days so I can just them for knocking about in, popping to the shops, etc.

Totally agree, there a very comfortable and smart shirt to wear for any occasion. Even when they've seen better days they still offer style fit for any occasion.
