Just looking through some pics and one of them from our Wembley trip has a huge banner with "The 12th Man Loud and Proud" emblazoned on it. I get we've slipped and are struggling somewhat but our home crowd is almost silent, there are arguments almost coming to blows amongst the home supporters with people leaving earlier. What if anything can be done to get some semblance of the 12th man back and maybe lift the team as well? Gouranga.

Playing with some intensity and creating some chances. That'd do it.

I get it that we're not the best and that we've been on quite a decline but surely the supporters can play their part in trying to lift the atmosphere and perhaps the positivity will rub off onto the team, either way it would surely be better than what we have at the moment for everyone. Gouranga.

Complacency in both the stands and more importantly the board room.
The 12th man probs got sold in a free transfer deal where mercenaries were bought in to replace it.
TBH - post Covid, both at football and in society with lack of hope/money/anything positive, there is a lot of anger at the min, and I think folk are bringing that frustration into the stands. We want our football clubs to give us some light relief and cheer at a weekend, not for it to reflect how miserable some lives are outside - the team hasnt done much of that for 5 years!

I personally think that the desire to keep possession at all costs has killed a lot of spirit. It’s hard to get excited about playing the ball around the back.
Engaging in a consistent high press and forcing errors on other teams would help as well.
Fans generally have to feel excited to chant excitedly.

Simple win football matches score goals. Our home games are awful and far too often end in Stoke 0. Fans turning up in the numbers they still are is pretty amazing. I think you're looking back through misty eyes, there was a ton of grumbling even in that cup final season up until we hit that hot streak that started vs WHU in the 5th round I think, we'd been pretty awful and the novelty of fans just being happy to be there was already wearing thin.

It is the same at every club, supporter intensity is cyclical and directly related to the level of success on the pitch which it reflects and is generated by rather than the other way round.

Like so many of the players the 12th man has taken a lot of knocks that are proving very difficult to bounce back from ! 5 or 6 years of continual battering has left him not the man he was.

Why are the fans at a club that has been useless for so long not really getting into games.
My favourite type of thread.

If people are getting feisty as others are leaving it's probably due to the issue of gangways getting blocked when someone decides to suddenly stop and look at what's going on on the pitch - causing an obstruction for people trying to leave and blocking the view of people still in their seats. Granted they're not missing much, but I can confirm that (in Block 31 at least) it does p*ss people off.

Get behind the team regardless, as AN said no team ever performs better when they get jeered or booed. Gouranga.

We need Denise to come on at half time in a match and do a "Delia", strongly imploring the "crowd" to be the 12th man.
"WHERE ARE YOU!"

Excitement. It’s completely evaporated over the last so many years. I still remember that air of anticipation, that rush of adrenaline when players like Ricardo Fuller got the ball or when Ethers ran down the wing. That buzz when Arnie outmuscled the opposition or that crunching tackle from Huth.
I look at us now and think, did those days really happen. It’s all about excitement, belief in your team. Intensity and purpose. When that starts to return that 12th man will respond in kind. It’s a long way off yet, sadly.

Get behind the team regardless, as AN said no team ever performs better when they get jeered or booed. Gouranga. There hasn't been a lot of jeering or booing really, just sullen silence, entirely in keeping with the drabness of the performances. Nobody is going to enthusiastically get behind one-paced, torpid, ineffective football. 'Get behind them regardless' is lovely, pretty talk, but in reality it isn't going to happen here or for anyone else in our situation.

we've won about 6 home games in 14 months, is it any surprise? Not that I was noisy anyway but I must have missed about half of those. When I go(every single home game when I'm not in Spain) we normally lose 0-1 to some absolutley rubbish team. Pre Reading I can't remember the last time I saw us win comfortably. Probably Hull when Allen did his achilles. It's mainly just boring scared football, too scared of losing, too scared of being to blame to provide any entertainment, joy or feel good factor.
