I don’t love him, that over agressive Pickford reaction to everything does my tits in. Even if it is PASHUN.
I personally much prefer a calm keeper.
That said he’s made some very good saves so far and is probably the best keeper we’ve had since we’ve been down (first season Butland was mostly decent with some stinkers thrown in).

Today there is a dearth of good English goalkeeprs. I can't imagine Pickford, have you read his biography it is quite moving, being an international goalkeeper in any era I've lived through. I remember the 1970s world cup having Banks, Bonneti, Stepney as retained keepers and a young Shilton returned home. We've seen many quality players wear the shirt, Clemance, a mature Shilton, Wood, Seaman, but sadly no more. I'm sure there are a few more I have forgotten. The choice we have today is so poor, we even select keepers that are second string at their own clubs. Hopefully things will change. |
