Although it's a couple of days late, the legend that is Nige was 80 years old on Friday. Having met him a couple of times, I found him to be a true gentleman and a thoroughly nice bloke who has been prepared to do anything for the club and supporters he loves. He even gave up his free time back in the old days to present the Oatcake Occasional Shield when we had that tournament running. On Saturday he was a joy to listen to and has lost none of his enthusiasm when we play well and score some cracking goals. So, from another octogenarian, well done Nige and I wish you health and happiness for many more years to come. Hope you had a great day.
OS doffs flat cap to a true Stokie Legend.

Congratulations Nige, great milestone Birthday to reach 👏🏻 An integral part of Stoke City's off the field framework is Nige. A man who clearly loves his work & his passion for the club is unquestionable.
Nige has come in for abit of criticism in the last few seasons, fair enough some people having a general whinge but some has been quite personal & insulting which is really not necessary. He's a guy in his 80's who travels the length & breadth of the country come rain or shine producing a bespoke & unique style of commentary & take on games that we should as fans embrace & support. For me the occasional Nige'isms are all part of this make up & should be embraced for what it is, not criticised to the point of being disrespectful & hurtful.
Niges duty to Stoke City on Radio Stoke is National Treasure status and long may it continue while he's fit and healthy enough to carry out his commentary duties.

Managers and the press rarely get on with each other, but when I have heard the various Stoke managers speak of Nigel, it’s not only with respect with his knowledge of football and his love of Stoke, they speak with a warmth and with genuine friendship. Nigel does make mistakes as we all know but that is part of his character and charm, he’s just that fan who’s unfortunately got the seat next to you and is determined to give you a ninety minute commentary of the game, it’s a mixture of a childish innocence, enthusiasm and sheer love of our beloved club, and long may he continue because you don’t know what you’ve got before it’s gone.

We should had a rousing rendition of 'There's only one Nigel Johnson' yesterday but it was a surprise presentation I think and none of us were expecting it. Legend is Nige.

I love Nige's little mistakes they make him who he is. His passion for the club is unquestionable. It will be a sad day when he hangs up his microphone. I think the vast majority feel the same judging by the warm round of applause for him yesterday.
