Taylor was another league to the other two central defenders! We've got another gem on our hands! Laurent also showed a lot of promising stuff, our best midfielder by a country mile! Bursik played well too! Brown showed some hunger after coming on! Apart from these 4 a really bad outing! Next game! ........................Bursik............................... Clarke...........Taylor........Jags.............Tymon........ ..................laurent.....Baker........................... Campbell..............Smallbone.................Brown........ ........................Gayle.................................. Stop playing this predictable 3 at the back FFS!!!!!!!!! What about bursik, smallbone and Campbell? Given my expectations they were some bright points IMO. The system's shit so the match was shit though. Didn't I mention Bursik? I wasn't too impressed by TY or Smallbone yesterday.

Taylor was best of a bad bunch and was very poor for their first goal. Absolutely no positives from today I am afraid I agree. I went with a Millwall season ticket holder. His view was that we played as if it were a friendly. I cannot disagree. I thought it was embarrassing. That’s something that’s unforgivable for me, a few players like Laurent, Brown and Taylor showed a bit of aggression in trying to win the ball back but the rest of them were so passive. 50/50 challenges were going in Millwall’s favour because they were going in with intent. Such passivity has been a feature under MON.

We were beaten by two goals which partly came about through their tactic of placing a player in front of Bursik purely to block his view of what was happening (not sure why it was allowed as he must have been offside from the initial headers). He and the defenders had no answer to how to counter this which presumably will be talked about. These sort of tactics tend only to work in the first few matches when teams are unprepared for them. Not excusing our defending or lack of impetus but a draw at Millwall one of the playoff favourites would have been a good result. A draw would have been ok. A convincing defeat in which we created next to nothing would have been rubbish. How did it go again?

Taylor was immaculate in nearly everything he did. Laurent put himself about. Bursik made some good saves. Campbell have one or 2 moments when you though he could be getting back to his best. Smallbone tried to make us play when he came on. Brown showed how we missed his energy.

Thought Taylor was by far the standout player (first goal aside). Rest of defence leave a lot to be desired. Not sure about Clarke but won’t judge him off one game (or pre-season), not convinced by flint either but again if he can do the basics from here on in then fine, wilmot a good footballer but always seems lost and is yet to do it in a stoke shirt for me. Perplexed why Gayle started over brown against a team like millwall that have to be “got at”. Laurent grew into the game and I think the pairing of him and baker will come good. To put clucas next to Laurent & baker also seemed a bit strange, defo should have been one for smallbone or even push Thompson up, millwall would not have dealt with a creative midfielder playing at them. Missed opportunity for MON there as gathering from his q&a rally cry I think he’s starting to feel the pinch a bit.

I know but weatching the highlights both goals were because our defenders didn't do their jobs and they were allowed to hamper our gk on corners. It was obvious what they were doing and yet we never tried to counter it. That's the reason you need players on the pitch who can make their own decisions. I do think had Jagielka been on the pitch instead of Flint we would have done something about it. I have only seen brief highlights but not impressed at all by Flint. Considering he was brought to the club to strengthen us at set pieces, has stated he likes to get his head to the ball first and presumably was picked because of Millwall's strength at set pieces he had an awful debut. Not saying we played well but had we defended set pieces better we would have got a draw. I didn't see Millwall create canything which wasn't a set piece. As I say, only seen the very brief highlights though.

Another poor selection from MON. I really think in a 4 Taylor and Jagielka would be a good partnership.

I wasn't too impressed by TY or Smallbone yesterday. Oh you did mention bursik mate I was drunk after yesterday's disaster Campbell no longer looked like he was carrying timber to me and smallbone moved about a bit. If we could just fuck off the system I think we have the talent to be a fun team to watch.

Why not go back to a system with 3 up front so we can create goalscoring opportunities? Right now we look sterile and boring in our approach.

Theres another 40 odd games to go Other than optimism, after last season, pre-season and yesterday’s pretty poor showing, what makes you think things are going to be better this season?

Smallbone did more in 5 mins that Clucas did all game. He looks like a decent player Christ, Clucas was infuriating. Clucas wouldn't get in this England Woman's team.

The positive is that it's not yesterday, when we lost 2-0 at Millwall.

I'd rather we start the season like this and gradually get better than start with a false positive .
It's all part of a cunning psychological plan.

Christ, Clucas was infuriating. Clucas wouldn't get in this England Woman's team. I'd actually already forgotten that he played yesterday. He was so ineffective I reckon he could walk on snow without leaving footprints

Taylor played fantastic. Bursik was on point as he should be. Our set pieces were poor, corners were far overhit and the corners we concieded from, a secondary school football team could've defended from them. Unacceptable saying we've just finished a good looking training camp. Not much to say about Campbell and Gayle because they couldn't really do anything due to the lack of balls played to them, it felt like Millwall just attacked and we defended. Defence looked solid for once which is a change.
Flint looked solid as he should. Clucas was... tbf i forgot he was on the pitch lol.
I think we are lacking due to playing a 3 , 5 , 2 not working and also MON has stuck signings on the pitch which some of them we've barely had a week who have utterly no clue how to play the MON way and have no clue how the other team mates play and what they're strengths and weeknesses are. Its like going onto FIFA and playing as a random team and you cant see the player stats. Hopefully we see an improvement.
