How do we feel about the midfield?
Complete change from last season's starters and I actually feel better about it.
Can't see where chances will come from though.

Wonder what kit combo we'll go with. I reckon white away shirt, red shorts, white stockings. Can't see anything but a win to them unfortunately but this mood occasionally preceded victory last season.

The back3 is a car crash waiting to happen.
Wilmot is the only natural right sided centre-back in a 3. He'll play him on the left.
Flint can ONLY play in the centre, where Jageilka and (from what I've seen) Taylor look more natural fits too. He'll play him on the right.
It'll be Flint-Jageilka-Wilmot and it'll be a right mess.

Agreed. I didn’t think it would be the defence that would be my greatest concern, but it is. Slow, laborious, I genuinely think we’ll concede goals for fun.

It is a bit concerning one surplus to requirements at Cardiff, the other 40 years old and the other out of position. Hopefully, my concern is misplaced and it’ll be all good. Time will be the judge.

When you look who they've got behind them as well, it's the only conclusion I can reach. If we can get to the point when it's Wilmot-Souttar-someone else then at least we'll have a chance.

Every time I saw Cardiff last season I thought Flint was their stand out player . Decent in both boxes. We've lacked that centre half who will clean every one out for too long. Main worry is that we haven't brought a keeper in . Flint was far from surplus to requirements at Cardiff, he said publically he wanted to move on.

Smallbone and Baker are the creators. Laurent is a bit more raw but can run with the ball and make space. Good service from the two wing backs is a must as well as movement in the box. Gayle should give us that when fit and starting regularly and i'd like to see us get a midfielder in the box more often.

He's a very good box to box midfielder who can put a tackle in and get forward to grab a goal, and he has bundles of energy, but he's not really one for vision or threading passes through or spraying it about?

Dreading the team sheet, hope he proves us wrong.
Bursik
Clarke Wilmot Flint Tymon
Baker Laurent
Brown Smallbone DWP
Campbell
That team wins the game. You wouldn't be able to play it every week but it wins on Saturday.

Looks a better side than last year to me. Looks even better with arguably our best two players to return from injury at some point. Not sure about all the negativity. Period of bedding in and getting to know each other looks the only issue to me Stoke have looked good on Paper for the last few Seasons. The problem has been with the motivation, training and organisation of the players. You say bedding in and getting to know each other is the only problem? When was the last time this manager played anything remotely resembling an unchanged side for more than 3 games? Never. We are in for more of the same this year. Tinkering, bizmare selections, subs and formations. Not optimistic. At all.

Judging by this thread if ‘managing expectations’ was on the clubs pre season to do list they can definitely tick that one off 😏
