Yep, he’ll end up at Burnley before us Hardly an exciting destination for any decent prospect. Why? Working with a Man City and modern football legend who will presumably have the ear of the Man City manager must be a dream chance for any player especially a Man City youth player.

For arguments sake, if we had someone like Terry or Rooney it would definitely be an adding factor when young promising players are choosing which club to join.

We haven't exactly struggled with bringing young talented footballers here on loan though have we? You probably have a point though, but I'd rather pass on the two examples you have given as managers if I'm honest. It will be interesting to see how Kompany gets on.

He also learned Spanish, Hughes didnt, which probably didnt help. But despite that, he did find us some gems 🙂

Hughes was popular at Barca and was a completely different player than Lineker but not a competition. Don't see why the need to compare

He was rubbish for them, got loaned out to Bayern Munich and did well before coming back. Lineker was an El Tel buy that succeeded until Cruyff took over. He wanted him out of the club and put him on the wing to try and force him out.

I wouldn't say Hughes bombed he just didn't suit the role they tried. Cruyff disliked Lineker for some reason and wanted him out, yep. He then scored 4 v Spain in a friendly. The biggest 2 fingers ever

The biggest 2 fingers ever In the Bernabeu too Lineker was a huge success at Barcelona Didn't suit what Cryuff wanted Cruyff had a soft spot for Salinas, was willing to fit him in no matter what. The Lineker 4 goal performance was a real embarrassment for him. Hughes of course scored that worldie v Spain.

Would you go and play for kompany or O’Neil and come I’m afraid it’s a harsh fact we are seen as beige and treading water I can only assume that every player we have signed so far had other offers, yet they chose ‘beige’ Stoke. I wonder why that is, if we’re such a poor destination?
