But what’s the solution? The country is so vastly overpopulated. It’s NHS struggles to cope because old people live longer and need more care. It’s energy suppliers struggle because they never spent enough money investing in alternative energies as the benefits wouldn’t be realized in that election cycle. They’ve been papering over cracks for a long time. Perhaps they should introduce a one child policy and restrict long term immigration levels to bring down population levels over a series of generations? I don't know.....but politicians put themselves forward as ones who offer solutions. I suppose there's the immediate concerns; People on the Oatcake have suggested a wealth tax on the energy companies. Perhaps alongside a much lower price cap. Plus public ownership ( non - profit) as a priority/ start the process immediately. A substantial increase in development forms of alternative forms of energy/ green energy. Plus...every new house to have a solar panel?...not feasible? What is the latest in wave power? ....but in the meantime continue to use fossil fuels as much as necessary. Anyone know of anything innovative in terms of insulation/ energy saving? How effective would small wind turbines be? Obviously it is more complicated than I make out, I know nothing, but what is the alternative?...I don't think doing nothing/ very little will work. www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/cost-of-living/martin-lewis-says-uk-brink-24717101I looked into the little wind turbines and if you're in a house in a city then don't bother mate. They're basically useless. Solar panels can be good value but obviously not that good for winter. Insulation was the big winner. Even closing curtains in rooms you aren't using can help a bit.

Does anyone know if these extortionate jumps in prices are before or after the Rebate ? I know long term something needs to be done but from a short term perspective when Martin is saying £100 a month will go upto £181 a month will that equate to me having to pay £115 and the rebate covers the rest for the next 6 months or will I be paying £181 plus they get the rebate ? Update- on my provider's website they are saying: You'll receive the Energy Bill discount automatically as a refund to your bank account following a Direct Debit payment. So the direct debit stays the same

Noticed that petrol and more so diesel prices are creeping back up,
I paid £1.51 yesterday in Whitchurch for unleaded (Morrison’s was £1.67) couldn’t resist asking why their prices are so low compared to the major suppliers and told “pure, pure greed” and at £1.51 he still makes a good profit but customers come first.
👍👍

I was in Cornwall last week and even at supermarkets it was 1.78.

I can’t find anything less than £1.90 anywhere for diesel. There should have been more kick offs when the prices went stupid a few months back. They dropped them a bit to make it look like they cared and then ramped them back up again. These prices should not be the fucking norm. Scandalous, but what can you do?
Shell & BP making billions in profit and we are still paying these prices. Joke.

For the past couple of months the place on Lichfield Street, next to Bridgewaters, has been a couple of pence cheaper than the supermarkets. Used to be that Morrisons was always the cheapest, they don't seem to be bothered about competing any more.

Now they're $90/barrel and that's almost £80. FFS.

I've always used Tesco's - partly because I collect Clubcard points and partly because I've always thought Supermarkets petrol are at the cheapest end of the scale.
Yesterday, I've seen the BP on Sutherland Road in Longton, 5p cheaper per litre than both Tesco & Sainsbury's. So I filled up there!!

I never use supermarket fuel ……a mate has a 7 year old Toyota Avensis diesel and last year in the summer he broke down on A38 when power just wasn’t there. Toyota garage took it in under the extended warranty to investigate & found internal cylinder head components, valves and injector nozzles all coked up with crud. When questioned about fuel he said he always used Morrisons fuel. The technician said it was common to have diesels coming in with same problem using cheaper supermarket fuel & advised him to use branded fuel. His car was sorted and has since used only Texaco or Shell fuel. I have followed suit with my diesel Jeep even to the extent of using Texaco premium diesel every 3rd fill up.

Neither Shell nor Texaco produce diesel in the UK - they buy from the same refineries as Morrisons or Tesco and stick their own nane on it. I think the Toyota man was pulling your mate's plonker to cover up for him having bought a 'Friday' engine. www.allstarcard.co.uk/news-insights/fuel-and-fleet/fleet-news/supermarket-fuel/

My lass, who runs a petrol 2018 Nissan Xtrail, told me yesterday that she filled up at the petrol station at the top of Anchor Road, Longton, and it was £1.50'ish. The last time she filled up it cost her over £100 but up there this time, it cost just £85. I'm amazed at the price difference between petrol and diesel now. Diesel used to be cheaper but it can be up to 30p a litre dearer now.

We use this place and throughout they’ve been way, way below everyone else, pure greed by the rest. I’ve just rang the same garage to order my heating oil and they reckoned prices are going back up but getting £200 credit on my electric bill, presumably my electric supplier will put the money in my bank rather than leaving it as a credit on my electric and how will they know I have oil CH?!
