RIP. Great band. Loved the Violater album. Music for the masses is a seriously underrated album

One of my favourite bands. Saw Fletch and the boys a couple of years ago at MEN, absolutely brilliant. Big shock. RIP Fletch

RIP. Great band. Loved the Violater album. Bloody hell, that's a shock. Would not have put money on him going before Dave Gahan. It is a brilliant album.

Absolutely gutted, I've loved DM since I was a kid, always were and always will be my fav band. Had the pleasure of seeing them live 12-15 times, including in Berlin on the last tour. As others have said, you'd have imagined Fletch outliving the others by some margin! RIP Fletch - soundtrack of my life.

DM were my first gig, 28th Sept 84 at the Victoria Hall. The only band I've been a fan of through my youth to now. Such a shock about Fletch, the betting money would have been all on Dave 'the cat' Gahan.
A band that left their poppy synth beginnings and morphed into a dark, booming and heavy sound.
Dave Gahan is one of the few remaining proper rock stars and a fantastic, charismatic front man.
Violator and Songs of Faith and Devotion are two if the best albums I've heard.
Get em on at Glasto before it's too late....

With all due respect to Fletch, he wasn't the musical inspiration for the band and often referred to himself, self-deprecatingly, as the Accountant, so from a musical point of view perhaps they'll carry on? From a personal point of view, it must be very hard to keep going without someone who's been there for 40 odd years (although the Stones have carried on after Charlie Watts' passing).

Yes, Fletch wasn't known as a big contributor musically, he sort of stood at the back behind his synth probably thinking about tax! They'll carry on I'm sure. Dave is looking in fine fettle for 60. And Martin is still writing some great stuff.
