Some might say Scousers seeing themselves as a breed apart from the rest of us, a special case, outside mainstream UK society even? Yet economically I’d say they’re much better off than Stokies yet we don’t mope around playing the victim! (Although we’re very good at whinging about the state of up ‘Anley, dustheads etc etc) I don’t think Stoke or any other city would put up with this and not have resentment…..if you did and shrugged it off I’d be embarrassed for you Did she treat Manchester London and Bristol the same ….NO www.bbc.com/news/uk-16361170Derek Hatton led the Liverpool fight back and credit to him and them for not accepting it and the bitterness will always be there

I think Liverpool has always had a lofty view of itself, those cheeky Scally’s with their accent so exceedingly rare, their mighty football successes, The Beatles domination of popular culture for a decade or two, an important maritime hub in terms of imports which directly led to Victorian Britain being the world leader? I don’t know why they should feel so disadvantaged and ‘picked on’ …… now as for Stoke …… that’s a proper forgotten, dilapidated, neglected city with poor health, wealth and education scores and a profile which is massively inferior to Liverpool’s….. yes Hatton did take on the Tories, hats off to him (I stood next to him once at the old Springfields school pitch on the A34 opposite the orange tree, Stoke v Liverpool schoolboys, about 1987) but it should be noted that, like Scargill, his efforts eventually went punished and didn’t he almost bankrupt their city council? Do scousers see themselves as non-English in the same way some Cornish people do? Oh dear …… pathetic ….. let’s bite the hand that feeds us!! lol

I work with a couple of scousers...both of whom are incredibly friendly, funny, modest and all round sound as your proverbial pound. Two nicer blokes you'd be hard pushed to meet. There were a couple of scousers in the footy team I used to play for and were exactly as you said, top blokes. They were also excellent footballers.

I’m sure there are loads of lovely scousers, as there are Stokies, but do they qualify to be treated as a special case whose city has been victimised and abused for years and years? The point I’m making is that places such as Stoke are in an infinitely more shocking state

That everyone would be equal? There will always be people with more power / money to be jealous of / resent.

Plenty of other countries manage it 👍🏻

From the response on here I’d say theyre a lot more unpopular than the Royal family and certainly a lot more corrupt. You will never please everyone.

Head of State is pretty much the House of Lords in terms of functionality. It’s a ceremonial position, only we have this extra layer of bollocks ruling us over, born into obscene wealth and power for no reason than their bloodline. I don’t think a head of state is realistic anymore if I’m being honest, modern politics is pretty fucked as it is. Ideally the old dear or whoever’s next would just keep doing that thing with the sword and relinquish all the wealth. Coming from Stoke-on-Trent, you know, like most of us here, I despise privileged people who either don’t know how privileged they are, or simply don’t give a fuck anyway. For example, if you don’t see the irony of that big-eared twat talking about levelling up the other week, whilst sat in a gold chair, then we might as well end the conversation.

I get that it does sound hypocritical due to his wealth but what else is he supposed to say. He’s always going to have money at least he has some humility. The only one from the Royal Family that comes across as an absolute knob who really abuses his position is Andrew.

I’m wondering how many Liverpool fans were booing.
A handful, quite a lot, all of them?
Because the coverage suggests it’s the latter, whereas it could easily be the others.
This could well be the case of a minority view being presented as a majority position because of a few loudmouths.
I mention this because a few years back I was at Celtic Park when a small number of fans booed Fergus McCann when he unfurled the league flag on the first day of the season (it’s a tradition up here). The boos were loud. They were upset with McCann saying that IRA chants weren’t welcome at Celtic Park. The incident was described in the media as “Celtic fans boo Fergus McCann) which was true but disingenuous.
So, I’m curious, does the booing represent the majority view of Liverpool supporters or a vocal minority.
This might be one of those “you need to be there” to be able to answer type questions!

Out of interest would Everton fans boo the National anthem?
