Equating the Monarchy and all they represent with Britishness is divisive. It's perfectly possible to be proud of being Bristish without agreeing with The Crown. A more unifying national anthem should be put in place.

It’s to do with not one member of the royal family attending any of the services to mark the tragedy in the immediate aftermath of it happening But there yer go The origins perhaps begin with this concept. However if you ask a large crowd of Liverpool fans why they boo the national anthem, they will state about the ‘Scouse not English’ slogan and reference the treatments from government. The mention of the royal family rarely is mentioned when reference to the booing. Yeah ok If you are on the outside looking in that’s the party line but if you are in you know the score …..I know because I know It’s an absolute accumulation of many events and in the end the camels back breaks

I wouldn’t clap, but at the same time, I wouldn’t boo.
The monarchy have no meaning or effect on me, or those close to me.
The whole idea and concept is ridiculous. They are no closer to god or better than anyone else. They serve no purpose, apart from the tourist pound…(In my opinion)
At best, they are a T Shirt or a printed coffee cup.
However, if they are an important symbol, or have meaning to other people, so be it.
Maybe they are becoming more important post Brexit, considering our loss of status, and the increasing possibility of the collapse of the United Kingdom, and the increasing likelihood that Scotland and Northern Ireland will decide to leave the UK for good.

It has an awful lot to do with that.

People may or may not agree with the monarchy or god and all that bollocks but find me a song where everyone or even most would be happy with.

I think and I stand to be corrected, but it’s something to do with the royal family not attending hills borough events. My daughter lives in Liverpool. Cracking city in the centre. Be careful in the suburbs. A lot of self pitying scousers though especially on the red side. Never really realised how much Liverpool and Everton really despise each other. Probably more than us and vale Traditonally Liverpool fans were catholic (of Irish decent) and Evertonians were protestant.

Post the fascist dictatorship the Spanish took the words from their anthem. The tune isn't very good but it's not as 'dirgey' as GSTQ.

What Maggie thatcher did has nothing to do with the monarchy. If you boo the national anthem you are scum. I said I wouldn’t reply but this one has pulled me out as you’ve proved the point of the ignorance behind it It’s fuck all to do with Margaret Thatcher Of course it's origins has everything to do with Thatcher. Her Government's response to Toxteth Riots which had boiled over due to persistent police discrimination was to institute a policy of "Managed Decline" upon the City to bring the City to its knees and submission. The Cheif Architect of this policy was Sir Geoffrey Howe This is not my opion but from documentary evidence from Cabinet Papers released under the 30 year rule. This was further exacerbated when within an hour of arriving at Hillsborough Thatchers personal representative Sir Bernard Ingham was able to pronounce that the cause of the tragedy was "Pissed up Liverpool Yobs" We are all aware of the final verdict These actions instilled within the Liverpool Community (Not just Red ones) an anti establisment mentality. Without their solidarity and persistence within the community the truth would not have been revealed Within this context and when you examine the words of God Save the Queen which speaks of subservience and bowing to authority it is hardly surprising that this has little appeal to Reds in particular but Liverpudlians of all Colours.

There are those who say Hillsborough would've been forgotten years ago if it happened to people from any other city. If that's the case it's the greatest compliment you can pay to the people of Merseyside.

Post the fascist dictatorship the Spanish took the words from their anthem. The tune isn't very good but it's not as 'dirgey' as GSTQ. The monarchy and religion have far too much sway in a country where nil religion is the most common status in the population and a healthy proportion would abolish the monarchy and the House of Lords completely. A secular constitution, an elected head of state and new English national anthem would be more inclusive of the population.

Since Derek Hatton and others ran the neo-Marxist Liverpool council in the 80’s and defied government protocol, Liverpool has seen itself as outside mainstream UK society which is OK but to then see themselves as downtrodden and a special case is pushing it a bit I feel. It’s a thriving city in many ways, has more tourists per year than Manchester and via The Beatles has an excellent profile here and abroad. If you want to see a REAL forgotten city you need look no further than our own Stoke on Trent!! That’s why BoJo and his cronies were here on Thursday. Do scousers want to breakaway from the UK? (Scousers call for Scexit!!) A bit like Cornwall people see themselves as Gaelic with those stupid abhorrent black and white flags? Hilarious!! But I suppose if the booing is promoting a wider discussion about: do we need a monarchy? then it can be seen as healthy and I’m sure Prince William will have already realised that by the time it gets to his turn it’ll be simply a symbolic title whereby they’ll need to seriously trim their lavish lifestyle in order to stay relevant?

The world is of course against Liverpool It's all the Irish who couldn't be arsed moving from the first place they docked who are the problem. I think the common term for that comment is ....complete bollocks Explain why it doesn't happen in London, Manchester or Birmingham which all have far bigger numbers of Irish immigrants.

Do people really stand there thinking about The Queen and/or God when they're singing the countries anthem? Personally I just feel like I'm singing an English anthem for England, I don't really give the words that much thought... Just like when I sing the Stoke anthem, Delilah, I just feel like I'm singing for Stoke, and I'm not giving the slightest thought to people driving away in cars or putting my dick in someone's hand. But there's the thing- it isn't an English anthem. It's a British one.

In fact they were probably the more Unionist of the two Scouse clubs
